Pay Range

$33,200.00-$45,700.00 Annual

This is the base salary pay range that an applicant can expect to make upon hire. Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education among other factors. In addition, this position is eligible for an incentive bonus.

The Engineering Drafting Intern will support the Process Engineering and Manufacturing teams at the Tucson Plant by creating and maintaining mechanical drawings, documentation, and technical data packages. This role provides hands-on experience in CAD drafting, manufacturing documentation, and plant engineering support in a manufacturing environment. This position will support continuous improvements within the Tucson facility in areas of customer resolution, product quality, process capability, product cost reduction, and new technology identification and implementation.

Responsibilities:

Support manufacturing initiatives including, but not limited to:

  • Create and revise 3D models and detailing drawings in AutoCAD and Solid Works
  • Reverse engineer existing components to develop technical data packages
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures for machining, welding, and fabrication processes
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes and programs to improve product quality, process capability, reduce costs, and ensure employee safety.
  • Work with the manufacturing/engineering teams to implement process changes, conduct trials, provide new product scale-up support, and initiate best practices
  • Create and maintain knowledge of latest technologies and evaluate for use in current and future processes.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree in engineering, associate of applied science in Computer Aided Design, or equivalent technical field (Industrial, Systems, Mechanical, Chemical).
  • Experience with Computer Aided Design CAD related software
  • Ability to read and understand architectural mechanical design drawings
  • Working knowledge of drafting and welding standards
  • Candidate should have a desire to grow and develop towards other technical and management roles in engineering and operations within a manufacturing plant.
  • Exposure to manufacturing facility safety and quality programs.
  • Experience in data analysis and computer applications systems
  • Familiarity with process improvement tools and techniques
  • Solid communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and in a cross functional team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint

Enhanced Skills:

  • Solidworks or other CAD drafting software
  • Experience with manufacturing drawings and GD&T
  • Mechanical aptitude, design and manufacturing experience
  • Exposure to PDM systems and Configuration Management Tools
  • Basic SAP or ERP exposure

Physical Requirements:

  • Work environment is typical of a manufacturing facility; may be exposed to environmental conditions of cold, heat, high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, heights, dust mist gas fumes, extensive walking or climbing, etc
  • Must be able to climb stairs and safely access process machinery and controls on a multi-level manufacturing line.
  • Must be able to safely lift equipment/material of moderate weight (50 lbs.).
  • Must be able to wear plant required Personal Protective Equipment. (respirator, hearing protection, safety shoes, safety glasses, etc.)
