Job description

Dr. Kyle Van Arendonk's Research Program


The Center for Surgical Outcomes Research (CSOR) at Nationwide Children’s Hospital seeks a researcher to join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team of surgeons, biostatisticians, epidemiologists, research staff, and research trainees performing rigorous clinical and health services research to improve surgical care for children.


The Senior Research Scientist will oversee research study design, data collection and management, statistical analyses, and dissemination of research findings. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation of analytic skills and prior experience with grant funding and leadership. Job Description Summary:


Conducts independent research in a specific scientific area, analyzes data, and presents findings. Oversees and assists junior research staff and students.


Essential Functions:


  • Develops study design and conducts independent research. Develops project aims, objectives, and plans research approach.
  • Supervises and mentors junior research staff and students. Trains and supervises technical support staff in performing research essential to carrying out the research program.
  • Records and analyzes data generated by the research study. Develops hypotheses for further investigation from the results of the studies performed.
  • Independently prepares scientific and technical papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Presents findings at local and national research forums. Writes first drafts of grant proposals and manuscripts. May be CO-PI on grant applications.
  • Collaborates with other ongoing research efforts either at NCH or at The Ohio State University.
  • Prepares to submit proposals to and obtain funding from external granting agencies.


Experience:

Minimum of 3 years of relevant research experience after PhD program, required.


Education Requirement:

PhD or equivalent degree in relevant field of science, required.
