Job description

Job Title: Exceptional Student Education- Licensed Physical TherapistLocation: Various LocationsReports to: Principal/DesigneeBargaining Unit: DFTBenefits Eligibility: YesTelecommuting Eligibility: School-based. Not eligible for telecommuting

*DPSCD will offer a $15,000 retention/recruitment certification bonus to existing and new educators who hold anactive State of Michigan License for Physical Therapyfor the 2026-2027school year.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Candidate must possess Bachelor or Master of Physical Therapy from an accredited college or university. The State of Michigan requires a license for this occupation.
  • All states require that physical therapists be licensed. To obtain a license, applicants must graduate from an accredited educational program and pass a national certification examination. Those who pass the exam become a licensed physical therapist or licensed/certified physical therapist.
Essential Functions
  • Conduct appropriate evaluation of students referred for related services under IDEA and prepare written reports of the evaluations and findings
  • Participate in meetings as member of the Multidisciplinary Team
  • Participate in the development of IEP or 504 plans for eligible students
  • Provide direct and indirect physical therapy in educational settings/least restrictive environments to students
  • Collaborate with other school personnel regarding physical therapy and the students’ needs
  • Delegate activities to teachers, parents and paraprofessionals
  • Train/instruct teachers, parents and paraprofessionals in delegated techniques and equipment use
  • Travel to and among schools to provide services
  • Maintain records of services provided
  • Lift, transfer and position students and equipment as necessary
  • Provides services to students eligible for related services
  • Improves, develops, restores or maintains a child’s sensory motor function in educational environments
  • Functions as “related service personnel” under state and federal law and regulations
  • Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned by the Principal (or Designee).
