DPS Officer 1s are trainees that use their academy training as a foundation to acquire the remaining knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform law enforcement duties as DPS Officer 2.

You will progress to the next level upon meeting minimum qualifications, demonstrating satisfactory performance, and receiving a recommendation from your appointing authority. This recruitment will be used to establish an eligible list for current and future DPS Officer positions in Carson City, Reno, Battle Mountain, Beatty, Eureka, Fallon, Fernley, Lovelock, Hawthorne, Orovada, Pioche, Wells, Winnemucca, Yerington, and Ely. Examination Process: Candidates that meet the minimum education and experience requirements of the position will be invited to enter the examination process as follows: A POST Category I physical fitness exam which consists of a vertical jump of 11.5 inches; Agility Run in 23.4 seconds; 24 sit-ups in 1 minute; 18 push-ups (not timed); a 300 meter run in 82 seconds; and a 1.5 mile run in 20 minutes and 20 seconds

**Please note Academy Standards are 14 inches vertical jump, 19.5 agility run, 30 sit ups, 23 push-ups, 68 seconds for 300 meter run, and 16.57 minutes for the 1.5-mile run. approved law enforcement academy. Job Duties DPS OFFICER I 1. Upon successful graduation from a Nevada Commission on P.O.S.T

approved law enforcement academy will work under close supervision as a trainee within the agency to which assigned. 2. Receive field training in the job duties of a DPS Officer II.

3. Perform related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge, skills, and abilities required at the previous level, AND: Knowledge of: Traffic and public safety laws and practices.

Skill in: Use of firearms and defensive tactics. Ability to: Communicate effectively with individuals of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds; establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with others; coordinate activities with other law enforcement agencies; conduct interviews; organize information and data; make presentations.
