Job Description:

Forward Deployed Engineer (Staff)

Location : Hybrid in New York, NY

About us:

Dow Jones is a global provider of news and business information, delivering content to consumers and organizations around the world across multiple formats, including print, digital, mobile and live events.

Dow Jones has produced unrivaled quality content for more than 130 years and today has one of the world's largest news-gathering operations globally. It is home to leading publications and products including the flagshipThe Wall Street Journal, America's largest newspaper by paid circulation; Barron's, MarketWatch, Mansion Global, Financial News, Investor's Business Daily, Factiva, Dow Jones Risk & Compliance, OPIS and Chemical Market Analytics. Dow Jones is a division of News Corp (Nasdaq: NWS, NWSA; ASX: NWS, NWSLV).

About the Role:

Dow Jones is building the AI platform that will change how thousands
of engineers across our newsrooms and businesses write software, and
the AI Enablement team is at the center of it. As a Forward Deployed
Engineer, you won't build infrastructure in isolation. You'll drop
into engineering teams across Dow Jones for a sprint or two at a time,
get them up and running on our AI-assisted development platform,
unblock their real friction, and leave them dramatically more
productive, then move on to the next team.
This is a hands-on staff role for a builder who likes variety and
visible impact. One rotation you're embedded with a team shipping
against their toughest workflow; the next you're feeding what you
learned back into the platform so every team benefits. You'll help
define how AI-assisted development takes hold at one of the world's
most trusted news and information companies.
We're a small, high-ownership team, and you'll have a direct hand in a
transformation the entire organization is watching.
If you want scope, proximity to impact, and to help set the direction
rather than just take tickets, this is that role.

You Will:

  • Manage the design, development, testing, and deployment of scalable, reliable, and secure software applications and services across front-end, back-end, and cloud environments independently.

  • Handle moderately complex technical cases, recommending practical solutions to optimize architectures, performance, and automation to enable seamless integration and continuous delivery.

  • Guide and mentor less experienced colleagues while communicating with clarity across product, data, and design teams to deliver integrated, high-quality technical solutions.

You Have:

  • 7+ years of prior relevant experience in software engineering, programming, or a related technical discipline.

  • Solid expertise in coding and building scalable, performant, and secure software architectures, adapting policies and practices as needed.

  • Experience guiding workstreams and applying software quality, automation, and continuous delivery practices.

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
