Job Subfamily
Infusion Oncology and Huntsman Acute Care nurses deliver direct bedside care to patients receiving intravenous cancer therapies and supportive treatments in outpatient infusion and acute care settings. Their practice is characterized by real-time monitoring of patients during treatment, early identification and management of infusion-related complications, and rapid response to high-risk events such as hypersensitivity reactions, extravasation, and other oncologic emergencies. As nurses progress, they manage increasingly complex therapies and unstable patient presentations while supporting safe treatment delivery across the infusion and acute care continuum. Advanced levels reflect deep technical expertise, independent clinical decision-making, and bedside leadership in high-risk treatment environments.

N1: Performs routine patient care assignments and may require intermediate support. Applies theoretical knowledge to clinical practice in structured, low-risk environments. Demonstrates understanding of basic nursing principles and unit protocols. Begins applying foundational knowledge in real-time care. Essential Functions
  • Performs routine patient assessments prior to and during infusion therapy; escalates abnormal findings.
  • Administers low-risk supportive infusions under supervision and assists with oncology treatments.
  • Monitors patients for infusion reactions and reports early signs of complications.
  • Prepares and manages infusion equipment and medications following safety protocols.
  • Participates in double-check processes and adheres to chemotherapy handling standards.
  • Provides basic patient education on infusion treatments and expected side effects.
  • Supports patients participating in clinical trials under guidance.
  • Communicates patient status and concerns with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of treatments and patient responses.
  • Maintains a safe clinical environment following oncology and infusion safety standards.
  • At the discretion of department operational and patient care needs, this position is required to work rotating schedules, which may include variable hours, weekends, nights, and holidays to meet the staffing and patient care demands of a 24/7 complex health system. Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance during assigned shifts is considered an essential function of the role.

Qualifications
Licenses Required
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
