Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Annual Giving & Individual Gifts Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing Volunteers of America Oregon’s annual giving program while cultivating a defined portfolio of individual donors and prospects to increase annual philanthropic support.
This position blends broad-based donor engagement strategies with relationship-driven fundraising. The role leads traditional annual fund efforts, including direct mail, digital appeals, and social engagement, while also managing a portfolio of donors with capacity to grow their giving through intentional cultivation and stewardship. This role plays a critical role in strengthening VOA Oregon’s individual donor pipeline and long-term sustainability.
Education & Experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in fundraising, development, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience managing annual giving programs and/or donor cultivation and stewardship activities.
- Experience building and maintaining relationships with individual donors and prospective supporters.
- Experience using donor databases or CRM systems to track donor activity, manage portfolios, and support fundraising operations, with familiarity with Raiser’s Edge NXT preferred.
Essential Job Duties     Â
- Develops and implements a comprehensive annual giving strategy that includes direct mail, email marketing, digital appeals, and social media-based fundraising to increase donor participation and revenue.
- Plans, executes, and evaluates multiple annual appeals throughout the year, including calendar year-end, fiscal year-end, targeted campaigns, and special initiatives.
- Collaborates with the Communications team to produce donor-focused messaging and calls to action that align with VOA Oregon’s mission, values, and brand standards.
- Monitors and analyzes annual giving performance metrics, including donor retention, response rates, average gift size, and appeal effectiveness, to inform strategy and continuous improvement.
- Maintains annual giving calendars, timelines, and workflows to ensure timely, coordinated, and accurate execution of fundraising activities.
- Partners with the Development Coordinator to ensure timely donor acknowledgment, accurate gift processing, and consistent stewardship practices.
- Supports donor acquisition, retention, and reactivation strategies, including outreach to lapsed or under-engaged donors.
- Ensures accurate tracking, documentation, and reporting of all annual giving activity in Raiser’s Edge NXT.
- Manages a portfolio of approximately 50–75 individual donors and prospects with the goal of increasing their annual giving up to $10,000.
- Identifies, qualifies, and cultivates individuals with philanthropic capacity who are currently under-giving or not giving annually.
- Engages prospective donors through personalized outreach, meetings, tours, and engagement opportunities that deepen understanding of VOA Oregon’s work and impact.
- Develops and executes individualized cultivation and solicitation strategies aligned with donor interests and organizational priorities.
- Conducts in-person, virtual, and phone meetings to build strong donor relationships and encourage increased annual commitments.
- Makes direct, personalized annual gift solicitations consistent with donor readiness and VOA Oregon fundraising goals.
- Partners with the Chief Development Officer, CEO, board members, and program leaders, as appropriate, in donor cultivation and solicitation efforts.
- Provides consistent and meaningful stewardship to assigned donors by communicating the impact of their philanthropic support.
- Documents donor interactions, strategies, and next steps in Raiser’s Edge NXT to support disciplined moves management and continuity.
- Collaborates with Development team members to align annual giving and special gift efforts with broader fundraising strategies.
- Upholds the highest ethical standards, confidentiality, and professionalism in all donor interactions.
- Ensures fundraising activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and professional standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Eligibility Requirements
- Must complete a criminal history background check and receive authorization.
- Must not be excluded from participation in federal healthcare programs, including but not limited to listings on the Office of Inspector General (OIG) List of Excluded Individuals/Entities and the System for Award Management (SAM) exclusion list.

Travel Requirement
- Up to 20% of work time requires local travel within the Portland metro area. Occasional overnight travel may be necessary for training, meetings, or other business needs.
