  • Pay Range: $51,500-$61,000 annually 
  • Hours: Primarily Monday-Friday days, evenings and weekends as needed

THE PLACE

The Administration Offices for Portland Rescue Mission, located in the south wing of the Shepherd’s Door facility in East Portland, supports the life transforming work of Portland Rescue Mission taking place in 3 ministry sites, 3 transitional houses, 2 vocational training enterprises, and outreach vans. The Administration Offices hosts a variety of teams including advancement, finance, facilities, IT, church relations and volunteer coordination, and HR. The Administration ministry team of staff, interns, and volunteers shares the PRM story to the community and supports nearly 100 employees who are together serving over 7,000 individuals in great need each year – giving hope and restoring life. 

THE POSITION 

The Middle Donor and Events Specialist is responsible to identify, keep, and lift middle donors (300-350 donors) as well as thank, care for, and invite middle donors into strategic opportunities, with an eye to moving them into deeper financial investment and ministry ownership. Additionally, this person will support small to midsize donor events designed to deepen donor engagement in the mission and vision of PRM.

THE ESSENTIALS

  • Serve as Middle Donor Officer to a case load of 300-350 middle donors, supporting donors to deepen their connection with the ministry of Portland Rescue Mission.
  • Establish, manage, and fulfill a caseload communications plan to effectively steward, engage, cultivate, middle donors each year, prioritizing middle donors with highest potential to become a major donor.
  • Ensure all donor engagement is done with empathy, compassion, and active listening so that long-term, personal relationships are developed with potential and existing middle donors. 
  • Identify and support key invitation opportunities so that Middle Donors are given clear opportunities to take a next step in learning about PRM.
  • Effectively use relationship management technology (e.g. donor database, wealth screening) that results in efficient, accurate, and consistent qualifying, communications, tasking, scheduling, tracking, gift acknowledgement, and coordination with Advancement team.
  • Respond to identified threshold gifts in a timely manner so that donors are thanked, prospected, and further followed up with as needed.
  • Leverage PRM stories, media, flyers, and other key communications to further engage donors, working in alignment with PRM policies, ensuring content is approved to share publicly and is shared in the right manner.
  • Support and leverage Advancement events to relationally connect with and show PRM donors the fruit of their investment.
  • Practice unreasonable hospitality so that donors feel served, encouraged and cared for with each interaction, event, and meeting.
  • Work alongside the Advancement Specialist to project manage and support the execution of small to midsize donor events, focused on high-capacity donors, partnering with all Advancement Team members so that each event reaches its goal.

  • Forecasted budget goals are met as a donor officer team and giving increase year over year through major donor ministry.
  • Maintain growth year over year with middle donor case load.

BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree in related field or experience equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience in non-profit work, ideally similar to the work of PRM and experience in a fundraising role with proven success in gift development
  • Excellent interpersonal, conversational, and presentation skills; demonstrating keen emotional intelligence and situational awareness
  • Impactful storyteller who can tell the Portland Rescue Mission story in a fresh, clear, and consistent manner using excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven expertise in developing and maintaining high-trust relationships with diverse individuals including executives and donors from all walks of life, as well as staff and people receiving Portland Rescue Mission services
  • High level of comfort with direct donor interactions including discussions of personal and family finances and asking for financial commitments
  • Capable of managing and prioritizing multiple projects in an organized and efficient manner to meet tight deadlines
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite software and customer relationship management software
  • Perform routine physical tasks including prolonged sitting and standing, frequent use of hands for typing and phone handling, and ability to lift at least 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Valid driver’s license
