Job Title: Application/Domain Architect

Overview

As an Application/Domain Architect, you will play a key role in supporting strategic transformation initiatives across the enterprise, with a strong focus on Application Portfolio Management, SWIFT Messaging, Security, and Architecture Governance.

We are looking for a "T-profile" architect: a strong generalist with broad enterprise architecture knowledge and the ability to operate across multiple technology and business domains, combined with deep expertise in one or more specific areas such as messaging, security, integration, cloud, data, or application modernization.

In addition to being assigned to one or more strategic initiatives, you will contribute to the evolution of the enterprise architecture practice by defining architectural blueprints, standards, reference architectures, and governance practices that align technology investments with business priorities. You will also support the adoption and maturity of LeanIX as the enterprise architecture management platform and contribute to Application Portfolio Management activities across the organization.

The Architecture function operates as a globally distributed organization across the US, Belgium, and Kuala Lumpur, fostering strong international collaboration and knowledge sharing across teams and domains. This position will report to the Head of Application Architecture US.

The role requires close collaboration with business and technology stakeholders to ensure scalable, secure, resilient, and efficient solutions across the enterprise landscape.

Key Responsibilities

1. Application/Domain Architecture: Messaging, Integration & Security
  • Provide architectural expertise on SWIFT Messaging solutions, messaging flows, integration patterns, and operational resiliency.
  • Contribute to the definition of secure-by-design architectures and security best practices.
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise security standards, regulatory requirements, and resiliency objectives.
  • Support architecture decisions related to API management, event-driven architecture, messaging platforms, and hybrid/cloud integration.

2. Enterprise Architecture & Transformation Support

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and tribes to understand business strategies, transformation priorities, and technology needs.
  • Provide architecture leadership and guidance to ensure alignment with enterprise standards, target architectures, and strategic objectives.
  • Support strategic initiatives related to data, messaging infrastructure, resiliency, security, and enterprise integration.

3. Application Portfolio Management & LeanIX

  • Support Application Portfolio Management (APM) practices across the organization.
  • Maintain and improve the enterprise architecture repository using LeanIX.
  • Contribute to application lifecycle management activities, including rationalization, modernization, technical debt management, and risk identification.
  • Define and maintain application and technology standards, reference architectures, and architecture principles.
  • Support architecture governance processes, including permits, reviews, and compliance assessments.

4. Architecture Governance & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Participate in architecture governance forums and working groups.
  • Communicate architectural concepts, risks, and recommendations effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on architecture matters and technology/application evolution.
  • Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across architecture communities and delivery teams.

5. Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Stay informed about emerging technologies, enterprise architecture trends, and industry best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for optimization, simplification, automation, and innovation across the technology landscape.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of architecture methodologies, governance processes, and tooling.
  • Promote agile, pragmatic, and outcome-driven architecture practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field; Master's degree is a plus.
  • Proven experience as an Application Architect, or similar role within a large-scale enterprise environment (+5 years experience)
  • Strong experience with Enterprise Architecture frameworks and governance practices.
  • Hands-on experience with LeanIX and Application Portfolio Management practices is a plus
  • Good understanding of SWIFT Messaging, integration architectures, and enterprise security principles is a plus
  • Experience with data-centric architectures, APIs, integration platforms, messaging technologies, and cloud/hybrid environments.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate effectively across business and technology teams.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in financial services, payments, or highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of architecture governance processes and operating models.
  • Familiarity with resiliency, operational excellence, and security frameworks.
  • Certification in enterprise architecture frameworks or cloud technologies is a plus.

The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position in Virginia is $121,564 USD Annual to $225,762 Annual USD. Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
