How much do dog behaviorist jobs pay per year?
What is a dog behaviorist?
A dog behaviorist works to change or improve various patterns of behavior in dogs. Pet owners often seek out a dog behaviorist or animal trainer to assess aggressive tendencies in their dogs. They may also need a dog behaviorist’s help if their dog has been through abuse or trauma. Job duties include evaluating the animal’s behavior, performing training sessions, and recommending changes regarding how the owner handles the animal at home. Some dog behaviorists undergo formal training experience to become a certified professional, using a variety of techniques to modify unwanted dog behavior over time.
What is the difference between Dog Behaviorist vs Dog Trainer?
| Aspect | Dog Behaviorist | Dog Trainer |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Certifications in animal behavior, psychology, or related fields | Certifications in training techniques, obedience, or specific training programs |
| Work Environment | Consultations, behavioral assessments, clinical settings | Training classes, obedience schools, private sessions |
| Employer & Industry | Animal behavior clinics, veterinary practices, pet behavior consulting | Pet training centers, obedience schools, private trainers |
| Search & Comparison Intent | Behavior modification, behavioral issues, psychological assessment | Obedience, commands, basic training |
While both Dog Behaviorists and Dog Trainers work to improve a dog's behavior, the Dog Behaviorist focuses on diagnosing and treating behavioral issues often requiring specialized knowledge in animal psychology. Dog Trainers primarily teach obedience and commands through training techniques. Understanding these differences helps pet owners choose the right professional for their dog's needs.

You'll not only communicate with the dog(s), but also have a lot of interaction with mom and dad. You'll document what you are seeing and offer tips and tricks to solve.
