Job Title: Translator - Special Education

Pay Program: Support Staff, Non-Exempt

Pay Range: Range 15 $26.36 - $29.39

Work Year:  196 days / 8 hours per day
Job Summary:
Operating under the general supervision of the Director of Access, Opportunity, and Family Partnerships, this position plays a critical role in ensuring effective communication between district, students, families, and staff by translating and interpreting a wide variety of written and spoken communications in English and designated language.  This position helps schools navigate language barriers, promotes inclusivity, and ensures compliance with district policies regarding accessibility.  By maintaining confidentiality and professionalism, this position fosters clear, equitable communication across the district.


 Job Responsibility Description

Document Translation

  • Translate district documents, including reports, forms, letters, bulletins, and correspondence, from English to the designated language.
  • Ensure accuracy in grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure while maintaining the intended meaning of the communications.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality, an impartial attitude, and a professional demeanor in all translation and interpretation work.

Translation and Interpretation Support

  • Maintain and update a district-wide database of translators and interpreters, including language proficiency, contact information, and availability.
  • Monitor interpreter resources and align services with district needs.
  • Serve as a resource to schools and administration, facilitating access to translation and interpretation support.

Records Management

  • Maintain organized files and records to ensure accessibility and continuity across school years.

On-Site Interpretation Services

  • Provide real-time translation and interpretation services for staff, students, and parents at schools, district offices, meetings, and conferences as needed.

Other Duties

  • Additional tasks, duties, and responsibilities may be assigned as needed/requested.

Education and Experience 

Acceptable demonstration of acceptable education and/or experience will be at the sole discretion of the District.

  • Associates Degree or completed 48 credit hours of college coursework required
  • Minimum 1-2 years of related experience
  • Preference given for any prior school district experience
  • Biliteracy certificate preferred

Licenses, Registrations or Certifications

  • Criminal background check required for hire
  • Valid Colorado driver's license or valid Colorado identification required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Fluent in English and designated second language
  • Knowledge of English and designated language usage in grammar, structure, spelling, pronunciation, punctuation, vocabulary, and comprehension
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible with collaborative critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to provide support in a professional and approachable manner
  • Commitment to handling sensitive and confidential information with the highest ethical standards
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with staff and various stakeholders
  • Ability to lead, communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
  • Ability to follow applicable federal, state, local laws and Board of Education policies, in addition to building and department procedures
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator
  • Mathematical skills including basic calculations and application of basic math concepts
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with G-suite software programs and email
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving, collaborative decision-making and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adjust to frequent interruptions
  • Ability and willingness to adhere to attendance requirements, including regular and punctual employee presence
  • Operating knowledge of scheduling, work order, and vendor tracking systems within 20 days of hire
