Job description

One of the best-known names in cruising, Princess is the world's leading international premium cruise line and tour company, carrying millions of guests each year to hundreds of destinations around the globe.  We give our guests the Medallion Class experience others simply can't. The Love Boat promises something for everyone.

We are looking to hire a Manger, Dry Dock OHS.  The Manager, Dry Dock OHS is responsible for overseeing Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) compliance during dry dock operations. This role provides proactive planning, coordination, and execution of safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel involved in dry dock projects. The role works closely with shipboard leadership, contractors, shipyards, and shoreside planning teams to embed safety throughout the full dry dock lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have strong operational safety leadership experience, a solid understanding of maritime and dry dock environments, and the ability to effectively influence and collaborate across diverse shipboard and shoreside stakeholders.

Here's a summary of what Princess is looking for in a Manager, Dry Dock OHS.  Is this you?

Responsibilities:

  • Dry Dock OHS Program Planning & Governance: Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive dry dock Occupational Health and Safety programs, including risk assessments, Permit to Work (PTW) frameworks, emergency preparedness, and alignment with company and shipyard safety management systems.

  • Stakeholder Coordination & PreDock Engagement: Lead early safety planning and engagement with shipboard leadership, contractors, shipyards, and shoreside planning teams to ensure proactive identification, communication, and mitigation of safety risks throughout the dry dock lifecycle.

  • Operational Safety Oversight & Compliance: Provide onsite and remote safety oversight during dry dock periods by conducting inspections, monitoring compliance with PTW and highrisk activity controls (e.g., hot work, confined space entry, work at height), and coordinating corrective actions with relevant stakeholders.

  • Safety Training, Incident Management & Assurance: Deliver safety briefings and orientation sessions for shipboard teams and contractors, and support the investigation of accidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions to ensure root causes are identified and lessons learned are communicated and embedded.

  • Continuous Improvement & PostDock Review: Facilitate postdry dock safety reviews, capture lessons learned, analyze trends, and recommend procedural or program improvements to enhance future dry dock safety performance.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • This role provides centralized oversight of OHS compliance across all dry dock operations and has fleetwide impact. The position engages early in the dry dock lifecycle and works across shipboard, shoreside, contractors, and consultants to ensure consistent application of safety standards and continuous improvement.

  • The role requires independent decisionmaking related to operational safety during dry dock, including identifying hazards, evaluating Permit to Work (PTW) risks and constraints, managing competing operational priorities, and addressing noncompliance in dynamic, highrisk environments.

  • This position directly impacts the safety performance of dry dock projects and contributes to fleetwide OHS standards, incident prevention, and continuous improvement across Princess Cruises' dry dock operations.

  • While the role has no direct reports, it requires strong functional leadership, influencing shipboard teams, contractors, shipyards, and crossfunctional shoreside partners to drive safety outcomes and compliance.

  • Knowledge:  Understanding of workplace policies and procedures / Familiarity with team collaboration tools and techniques.

  • Skills:  Strong time management and organizational skills

  • Abilities:  Ability to maintain reliable and consistent attendance / Capacity to be punctual and meet deadlines / Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and work as part of a team / Demonstrated professionalism in all interactions and tasks.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Master's Degree or equivalent experience acceptable)

  • Preferred disciplines: Nautical Science, Engineering, or Occupational Safety

  • Preferred certifications: Chief Officer Unlimited, 2nd Engineer Unlimited, or NEBOSH

  • Minimum 5 years of occupational health and safety management experience

  • Maritime or passenger shipping experience preferred

  • Experience supporting dry dock, shipyard, or major maintenance projects

Travel:   More than 50% with shipboard travel likely

Work Conditions:  Work may require employee to work inside and/or outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.

Physical Demands: May need to stand for long periods of time.

This position is classified as "in-office."  As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Princess office Monday through Thursday each week. Employees may work from their homes on Fridays.  Candidates must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the area.
