Job description
One of the best-known names in cruising, Princess is the world's leading international premium cruise line and tour company, carrying millions of guests each year to hundreds of destinations around the globe. We give our guests the Medallion Class experience others simply can't. The Love Boat promises something for everyone.
The Manager, Dry Dock OHS and Certification is responsible for establishing process, overseeing occupational health and safety compliance during dry dock operations, and supporting fleetwide ship certification compliance related to dry docks, ship modifications, and regulatory approvals. This role provides proactive planning, coordination, and execution of safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for shipboard teams, contractors, shipyards, and shoreside stakeholders throughout the dry dock lifecycle.
Here's a summary of what Princess is looking for in a Manager, Dry Dock. Is this you?
Responsibilities:
- Dry Dock Safety Program Governance and Lifecycle Management - Lead the development, implementation, and oversight of dry dock occupational health and safety programs across the full project lifecycle. Coordinate with shipboard leadership, shipyards, contractors, consultants, and shoreside stakeholders to identify, assess, and mitigate risks; establish safety controls; ensure alignment between company and shipyard safety management systems; and provide on-site and remote oversight to verify compliance with Permit to Work requirements, regulatory obligations, and high-risk activity controls. Facilitate post-dry dock safety reviews, capture lessons learned, analyze trends, and implement improvements to enhance future dry dock safety performance, standards, procedures, and risk controls.
- Safety Assurance, Training and Compliance Monitoring - Provide safety leadership through workforce engagement, safety briefings, orientations, inspections, audits, incident investigations, and corrective action management. Monitor safety performance and compliance throughout dry dock activities, address deficiencies and non-conformities with relevant stakeholders, and ensure root causes and corrective actions are documented, communicated, and embedded.
- Ship Certification and Modification Compliance - Coordinate ship certification activities and support the review, approval, and documentation of ship modifications associated with dry dock projects. Work with internal stakeholders, classification societies, Flag Administrations, regulatory authorities, shipyards, and contractors to ensure certification requirements, regulatory approvals, and configuration documentation are maintained and completed in accordance with applicable standards and company requirements.
- Special Safety, Compliance and Risk Reduction Projects - Lead or support assigned initiatives and special projects that advance occupational health and safety, ship safety, regulatory compliance, operational risk reduction, or continuous improvement objectives. Coordinate cross-functional stakeholders, develop implementation plans, monitor progress, and deliver project outcomes that strengthen safety performance, compliance, operational readiness, and organizational effectiveness across the fleet.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Scope: This role supports the planning, execution, and close-out of dry dock projects by coordinating occupational health and safety activities and ship certification compliance requirements. The position works with shipboard teams, shoreside departments, contractors, shipyards, classification societies, and regulatory authorities to help ensure dry dock activities, vessel modifications, certification requirements, and associated documentation are completed in accordance with company standards and applicable regulations. The role also supports assigned safety, compliance, and risk reduction projects and contributes to the continuous improvement of dry dock safety and compliance processes.
- Problem solving: The role requires independent judgment in identifying and mitigating occupational health and safety risks during dry dock operations, coordinating corrective actions in dynamic and high-risk environments, and balancing safety, operational, schedule, and project objectives. The position evaluates compliance risks associated with vessel modifications, certification requirements, and regulatory approvals, ensuring issues are appropriately escalated and resolved with internal stakeholders, contractors, shipyards, classification societies, and regulatory authorities. The role also supports the implementation of safety, compliance, and risk reduction initiatives, requiring the ability to analyze information, prioritize competing demands, and develop practical solutions that align with company standards and applicable regulations.
- Impact: This position directly contributes to the safe execution of dry dock projects and supports compliance with applicable occupational health and safety, ship certification, and regulatory requirements. The role helps reduce operational and safety risks by coordinating the implementation of safety controls, supporting certification and modification approval activities, identifying compliance concerns, and facilitating timely corrective actions. Effective performance in this role supports regulatory compliance, protects personnel and assets, minimizes project disruptions, and promotes continuous improvement in dry dock safety and compliance processes.
- Leadership: While the role has no direct reports, it requires strong functional leadership and the ability to influence safety, certification, and compliance outcomes across multiple stakeholder groups. The position works closely with shipboard teams, shoreside departments, contractors, shipyards, classification societies, and regulatory authorities to coordinate activities, resolve issues, and drive alignment on safety and compliance requirements. The role is expected to actively monitor dry dock activities, challenge unsafe conditions and work practices, and require implementation of appropriate risk controls and corrective actions to maintain compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. The position also leads assigned projects and initiatives, facilitates collaboration among diverse stakeholders, and promotes accountability for the safe and compliant execution of dry dock, ship certification, and vessel modification activities.
