Job description

Job Title: Patient Access Rep II

Location: Ambulatory Care Center

Department Name: Radiology Support Services

Shift: Day

Pay Range: $22.17 - $27.54 per hour

The above reflects the anticipated hourly wage range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey.

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

To accurately and promptly collect all pertinent information at the initial point of registration to insure the proper billing occurs, which will enhance timely cash flow and reduce the days in accounts receivable. Performs all duties assigned by management.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Equivalent (G.E.D.)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification, and billing processes
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including experience with electronic medical records
  • Strong communication skills

Preferred:

  • Post-Secondary Degree in Healthcare Administration
  • Certification as a Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA)

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Day shift, 6:30am-2:00pm
  • Monday through Friday, & rotating Saturdays
  • Full-Time, 37.5 Hours Per Week

Essential Functions:

  • Accurately obtains and enters all patient demographic and insurance information into the computer system. Reviews computer edit checks and screens to verify accuracy and completeness.
  • Assesses patient insurance coverage to determine financial screening needs or deposit requirements. Refers all self pay patients to a financial counselor.
  • Collects and scans in RASI all necessary documents to ensure that all information is received at point of service. ( ie insurance cards, ID, referrals, authorizations, signed prescriptions)
  • Collects deposits for all self pay patients prior to testing.
  • Compares existing demographic/insurance information to current data to verify if information has changed and adjusts the data as needed. After verification of information by patient, places an ID band on patient’s wrist when required.
  • Has patient sign a waiver of financial responsibility if unable to determine if an authorization is required or a required authorization is unavailable.
  • Inquires if any patient over 18 has an Advance Directive. Answers are documented on both the admission consent form as well as SMS. If available, Advance Directive is scanned into RASi and a copy sent to the nursing unit.
  • Insures every patient signs: General Admission Consent, Important Message from Medicare, Patient Acknowledgement Re Physician Services, DOBI Consent. This includes going up to the nursing floors for patients that were transferred from other facilities. Insures all signed documents are scanned into RASI. Gives patient copies of all signed documents which includes patient rights, privacy notice and discharge policies.
  • Maintains all CPAR standards including but not limited to QA, CEUs, and yearly certification.
  • Performs medical necessity checks for all Medicare outpatients prior to testing and has patient sign an ABN for any test that does not meet medical necessity.
  • Requests payment of the insurance co pay and deductible when appropriate. Forwards all payments to the cashier for proper posting to patient’s account.
  • Rotates to other positions to meet the needs of the department.
  • Verifies that patients have required authorizations/referrals prior to sending them for testing. Documents all information in SMS.
  • Works with management to insure that the front end process enhances and streamlines the work flow in all related departments.
