Job description

This role is part of our hybrid work model at our St Paul, MN HQ office and currently working 3+ days in office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Do you love finding the most effective and simplest technical solution to a complex business problem? Do you think in systems, not just features? Do you enjoy translating "what we wish were possible" into "here's how we can actually build it"?
Join us and build impactful software solutions from the ground up! We're looking for a systems thinker who can work alongside AI coding agents and thrives on transforming business needs into effective, efficient (and sometimes scrappy) software solutions. If you enjoy a collaborative, fast-paced environment where innovation drives success, this is the place for you. We have big company needs on a mid-size team.
At INFRA, a mission-driven team supports independent natural food grocers by delivering solutions that help them thrive in a competitive market. In this role, you'll be key in turning big ideas into reality. From brainstorming and architecture to design, implementation, and iteration, you'll have a hand in every stage of development. Working with our member-facing teams and partners, you'll create seamless, intuitive applications that make a tangible difference for local businesses. This is more than just a job, it's a chance to see your work positively impact communities.
What you will own and improve:
Development, Code Evaluation & Output Validation (60%)
  • Design, code, and test software solutions, ensuring they meet functional and performance requirements
  • Integrate with existing systems and third-party services, creating seamless user experiences
  • Leverage AI tools responsibly in development workflows
  • Evaluate AI-generated and human-written code for quality and risk
  • Continuously refine solutions for usability, security, and scalability
  • Review code, troubleshoot issues, and support testing practices to improve reliability, performance, and overall code quality

Technical Project & AI Leadership (20%)
  • Work within our new Claude Code framework to create development specifications, create validation frameworks, and ensure reliable outputs
  • Refine the multi-agentic development process for making enhancement to development workflows, tools, and code architecture while surfacing risks, trade-offs, and system dependencies
  • Serve as the technical lead within projects, translating needs between technical and non-technical stakeholders while guiding solutions to practical, working outcomes.
  • Partner to scope and define technical initiatives and write structured and practical specification documents.
  • Process Improvement and Innovation - Stay updated on emerging tools, frameworks, and programming paradigms, sharing insights with the team.

Business Analysis & Stakeholder Strategy (20%)
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and partners to understand nuanced business challenges, particularly around retailer operations and data workflows
  • Gather and clarify requirements, including ambiguous or evolving needs, and identify which problems are strong candidates for AI-assisted solutions versus traditional development
  • Translate operational pain points into clear technical problem statements and structured specs that can guide both human and AI-assisted development

Key initial projects:
  • Work within and assist in building out our Claude Code setup to help streamline development efficiency and user experience improvements to deliver impactful solutions to our members at a faster pace.
  • Work alongside other developers and third-party development companies to build out INFRA's custom web applications that give our retailers operational efficiencies and data insights to help them thrive in the natural foods grocery space.
  • Build out the front end web interface for INFRA's automated retailer tools using JavaScript (Vue) and related libraries.
  • Build out both backend processes and API endpoints that connect to the front-end web interface and our centralized data centers for INFRA's automated retailer tools using Python (Django and Django REST Framework) and related libraries.

What you already know:
  • Experience: 3-5 years of professional software development experience, with a proven track record of delivering production-ready solutions. Preferred experience delivering strategic client solutions.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Strong backend skills in Python (Django, Django REST Framework, or FastAPI), including building secure API endpoints that serve SQL database data.
    • Front-end development experience with JavaScript, ideally with Vue or a similar modern framework.
    • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
    • Understanding of database systems (SQL or NoSQL) and basic networking concepts. The ideal candidate will have experience with Microsoft SQL or PostgreSQL.
    • Demonstrated experience with broad scale technology development, including project planning, architecture, design, building, implementation, and testing.
  • Strong systems thinking: You understand how tools, workflows, data, and people connect, and you design with those relationships in mind
  • AI-Assisted Development: Hands-on experience using AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot, Codex, or similar) in real development workflows.
  • Code Evaluation: Ability to critically review and validate both human-written and AI-generated code or outputs for quality, security, risk, and maintainability.
  • Specification & Documentation: Experience writing structured technical specifications, scoping documents, or solution briefs that bridge business needs and technical implementation.
