Job description

SMG is a nationally recognized professional service organization that provides workplace safety consulting, training, staffing, program planning, and implementation. SMG seeks a local Safety Advisor - Owner's Rep in the South Carolina area.
The key function of a Safety Advisor is to put safety at the forefront of their job, prioritize the client's needs, work well in a team setting, be self-managed, and be flexible when it comes to change.
Overview of Job Responsibilities:
  • Lead the implementation of the Safety Management Program across assigned projects primarily on Transmission and Distribution utility projects.
  • Conduct high-quality safety observations, documenting findings with an emphasis on leading indicators.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to support safety initiatives.
  • Provide safety leadership and guidance for grid enhancement projects.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with safety policies, procedures, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Clearly communicate safety expectations and requirements to all contractors.
  • Represent the utility client in project-related meetings and discussions.
  • Prepare clear, concise safety reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Promote and reinforce a strong safety culture among field crews.
  • Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures while supporting continuous improvement

Requirements
  • 3+ years of safety experience
  • Experience with transmission and distribution construction, substation construction, new lines construction, access roads, etc.
  • A degree in Safety or related fields is preferred
  • BCSP certification is required in lieu of degree
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Course (non-negotiable)
  • Transmission & Distribution experience is preferred

Physical Demands of the job may include:
  • Moving long distances
  • Ascending/Descending stairs and ladders
  • Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period
  • Working in extreme weather
  • Being exposed to loud noises
  • Wearing personal protective gear correctly
