The Opportunity

Leavitt Machinery is looking for a mechanically skilled Field Technician (Heavy Equipment) to join our Service team in Portland, Oregon. Reporting to the Service Manager, the Field Technician will be assigned to a variety of machinery repair tasks required by our loyal customers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

As a Field Technician your key responsibilities will include:

  • Diagnosing, repairing, and completing routine maintenance and safety inspections on a variety of material handling equipment and machinery
  • Maintaining effective and consistent communication with the Service Dispatcher regarding ongoing Service jobs, and completing assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Discussing Service job details with customers and communicating a clear understanding of the job scope and repair requirements
  • Communicating with the Parts department via phone and email to ensure required parts are ordered, and preparing required parts before visiting job sites
  • Maintaining proper documentation where needed, including work order forms and warranty paperwork
  • Reporting any safety incidents promptly and adhering to all safety policies

Required Skills & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, knowledge, and competencies:

  • 2-3 years of heavy equipment or material handling equipment experience required
  • Previous aerial platform and lift truck repair experience strongly preferred
  • Relevant Trade Certification a strong asset
  • Experience with hydraulics and diagnosing/servicing electric engines a strong asset
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to partner effectively with external customers and internal stakeholders
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and strong aptitude for learning and applying mechanical and technical concepts
  • Strong work ethic and a positive attitude
  • High school diploma
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites in the region is required

The base pay range for this role is: $35.00 to $43.25 per hour depending on experience.
