Position Overview

At Foundation Building Materials (FBM), Dispatchers are vital to daily operations-coordinating drivers, routes, and deliveries to ensure everything runs smoothly. In this fast-paced role, your communication and problem-solving skills will keep our teams and customers connected.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Dispatching & Logistics Management 
    • Provides schedules and dispatches delivery crews in a safe and efficient manner while maximizing branch profitability
    • Responsible for the accurate and efficient communication and distribution of all delivery orders to branch warehouse and delivery staff
    • Uses and maintains Department of Transportation (DOT) dispatch software to above-target FBM compliance percentage
    • Provide instruction to drivers if a logistical or customer service issue should arise
    • Calls to confirm address, material, stocking conditions, and any other needed information on ALL deliveries BEFORE the truck leaves the FBM warehouse
  • Logistics Oversight
    • Manages the material accuracy/verification process for each truck pre-delivery
    • Monitors and reports (as needed or requested) on labor costs for each delivery
  • Communication & Service
    • Establishes, builds, and maintains customer relationships
    • Communicates effectively with customers, sales, and management regarding delivery statuses
    • Professional, courteous, and ongoing contact with customers before, during and after a sale
    • Communicate any concerns or issues directly to Branch Manager
    • Must attend all required meetings in relation to deliveries and overall company
  • Miscellaneous 
    • Support our values in the stated areas of Safety, Customer Focus, Teamwork, integrity and being a Company of Choice for both employees and customers
    • Adhered to all company policies and procedures, DOT and OSHA standards
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
    • Building products knowledge strongly preferred
    • Strong computer knowledge/ data entry skills required
    • Previous experience preferred
    • Ability to quickly and accurately perform basic math skills
    • Assertive - demonstrated ability to "take charge" and be pro-active when necessary
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to quickly read a road/ geographical map and communicate directions to someone else
    • Demonstrated effective (polite, organized, questioning) telephone skills
    • Flexibility/adaptability in personal work schedule and in product/delivery scheduling
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Approaches job assignments with positive "can do" attitude
    • Effective interpersonal skills with customers and peers
    • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions with limited guidance
