Job Description:

KTRK-TV, the ABC Owned TV station located in Houston, TX is looking for a deeply-committed journalist who will oversee the creation, management and production of a daily television newscast.

The best candidate will have a heart for news, understanding the deep complexities of how to tell compelling stories in a new era of journalism. We strive to produce "big J" journalism daily and don't follow the old norms of what stories get into a newscast. Understanding of our news philosophy and strategy will be essential in being successful each day.

To fit in our newsroom, you must love news - understanding and accepting that news is calling, not a 9 to 5. You'll be expected to be available for breaking news at any time and can be assigned to work any day, any shift over the course of your career here.

Producers must work well with anchors, reporters, assignment editors, writers, directors and graphic artists.

Responsibilities:

  • Craft daily newscasts and manage all aspects of the broadcast

  • Pitch story ideas that fit our news strategy and ideology

  • Communicate well with others in the newsroom when building shows

  • Collaborate with digital team members throughout the day

  • Write clear and compelling broadcast copy

  • Execute last-minute changes in high pressure situations

Basic Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate must have top-level producing experience at a local news station

  • Demonstrated ability work under deadline pressures and work in a rapid, fast-paced environment

  • Detail-oriented with strong editorial and production skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be flexible with working hours (late nights, overnights. Weekends and holidays) and adaptable to change

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communication or related field

Required Experience:

  • 2-3 years of experience in a medium to large sized market
