Job description

Responsibilities
Hampton Academy provides individualized, trauma-focused support and education for children and adolescents ages 6 and older. Our educational program is designed for students who suffer from anxiety, school avoidance, poor social skills, mood disorders and other socio-emotional concerns that interrupt their ability to fully function in a traditional academic setting. Hampton Academy helps students with attaining their goal of returning back to their sending district.

Job Duties
  • Organizes and supervises students in all settings
  • Assists in de-escalation of students
  • Assists with arrival and dismissal of students.
  • Assists students with various projects, crafts, and curriculum tasks
  • Helps with the supervision of children during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
  • Informs assigned teacher or disciplinarian of any serious infractions of discipline rules by students.
  • Aids physically handicapped children, particularly those who rely upon appliances and prosthetics.
  • Attends staff training of Handle with Care procedures and UHS De-escalation
  • Follows procedures and protocol as outlined in the Hampton Academy Staff Handbook and Policy Manual
  • Participates in in-service training as directed.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the administrator or teacher.
  • Performs other tasks as requested by the Assistant Director, Executive Director, and/or his/her designee.

Qualifications
Requirements :
  • High School Diploma required;
  • Associate, Bachelor's degree and/or college level coursework in education related field preferred;
  • One to three years experience working with special needs children at the middle/high school level (preferably Emotionally Disturbed or Multiple Disabled);
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and school staff;
  • Knowledge of diverse needs of children with disabilities and appropriate special education classroom practices;
  • Criminal history check and proof of authorization to work in this country required prior to employment.
