What is a Disability Non Attorney Representative?

A Disability Non Attorney Representative is a professional who assists individuals in applying for Social Security Disability benefits, representing them in claims and hearings even though they are not licensed attorneys. These representatives are knowledgeable about Social Security rules and procedures and can help gather medical evidence, prepare paperwork, and communicate with the Social Security Administration on behalf of their clients. They must meet certain qualifications and receive approval from the Social Security Administration to represent claimants. While they are not lawyers, they can provide valuable guidance and advocacy throughout the disability claims process.

How does a Disability Non Attorney Representative typically collaborate with attorneys and medical professionals during a client's case?

Disability Non Attorney Representatives often work closely with both attorneys and medical professionals to strengthen a client's Social Security Disability claim. They gather and organize medical evidence, communicate with healthcare providers for updated records, and may coordinate with attorneys to prepare for hearings. Regular collaboration ensures all necessary documentation is accurate and up-to-date, and that legal strategies align with the medical facts of the case. This team-based approach helps maximize the client’s chances of a favorable outcome.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Disability Non Attorney Representative, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Disability Non Attorney Representative, you need a solid understanding of Social Security Disability law, case management experience, and typically a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Familiarity with SSA systems, electronic filing tools, and specialized legal research platforms is often required. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and effective advocacy are essential soft skills for representing and supporting clients. These abilities ensure accurate case preparation, effective communication with clients and agencies, and the best possible outcomes for disability claimants.

Job description

About this position

DM Injury Law is one of the fastest-growing personal injury firms in the Midwest - 70+ attorneys, 200+ support staff, and offices across 10 markets including Kansas City, St. Louis, Denver, Omaha, and Oklahoma City. Founded in 2013, our growth has been driven by professional, compassionate legal representation for clients after life-altering personal injury events.

Compensation: $115,000 - $170,000 (Base + Quarterly Performance Bonus) High performers regularly earn above this range, and total compensation has no ceiling.

Origination Bonus - Paid on Every Case You Bring In Refer a case to the firm and earn one-third of the firm's fee at resolution, on top of your regular compensation. Most firms reserve this for partners. We offer it to every attorney, starting on day one.

Why DM Injury Law
  • Origination from Day One - Earn one-third of the firm's fee on every case you bring in. No partnership track required, and no cap on what you can earn.
  • No Billable Hour Requirements - We're a contingency practice, so you focus on client outcomes, not clock entries.
  • Dedicated Support Staff - Paralegals, case managers, and intake specialists behind every attorney.
  • Quarterly Bonuses - Performance bonuses paid every quarter, not just once a year.
  • 401(k) with 4% Match - Fully matched up to 4%, above the law firm average.
  • Full Benefits - Health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Sustainable Caseloads - Realistic workloads by design. This is a long-term career, not a burnout cycle.

This role is based in our St. Louis office. You'll handle all aspects of representing clients in their workers' compensation matters - from the moment a case opens through resolution - while providing direction and supervision to non-attorney staff to ensure full compliance with workers' compensation laws, regulations, and labor codes.

What You'll Do
  • Proactively communicate with clients to provide updates and claim status throughout their matter
  • Interact and negotiate with insurance companies on behalf of clients
  • Draft case materials, correspondence, pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, and other legal documents
  • Ensure accuracy of all documents prepared by you and your team
  • Represent clients at hearings, depositions, mediations, and other proceedings
  • Provide direction and supervision to non-attorney staff in compliance with all workers' compensation laws and regulations
What We’re Looking For

Required

  • Eligibility to obtain an Illinois Bar license (UBE score or reciprocity)
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Exceptional organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, SharePoint)
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred

  • At least one year of workers' compensation experience (strong candidates with relevant litigation background will also be considered)
  • Committed to providing responsive and compassionate client service

Attorneys who want to lead find real opportunity here. Growth looks different for everyone, and we build around what matters to you:

  • Team Lead - Guide and support a group of attorneys day-to-day
  • Department Head - Own strategy and performance across a practice area
  • Mentorship - Shape the next generation of attorneys at the firm
  • New Markets - Help open and build offices as the firm expands
