Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking a conceptually sharp, culturally fluent, and hands-on Senior Designer/Art Director to join our dedicated team building a YouTube channel for one of the world’s leading social video editing software brands. This specialized role is focused on the visual identity, art direction, and design execution of long-form tutorial content, searchable how-to breakdowns, and creator-led narrative content for an audience of editors, creators, and social filmmakers.

The ideal candidate is part creator, part episodic visual storyteller, and part production expert. Our client brings modern expertise, helpful guidance, and casual confidence to social content creation without a corporate ego. If you know how to build visuals that keep eyes on screen, structure a flawless design architecture for episodic YouTube programming, and possess the physical, hands-on production experience to collaborate effectively with Copywriters, Videographers, Editors and Creator Partners—this is your role.

This position is open to Los Angeles candidates. Local candidates only; no relocation is provided. You will work in a fast-paced, creative agency environment native to the speed of social culture.

Project Duration & Hours:

  • Timeline: Launching soon through end of February 2027, with likelihood to extend until June 2027.
  • Hours: Variable by phase, estimated at 15–35 hours per week.

Work Environment:

  • Location: Remote-first, with hybrid or in-office options available if preferred.
  • On-Site Requirement: The team will need to be on-location together for content shoots.

Key Responsibilities

  • Long-Form Asset Design & Storytelling: Concept and architect complete design layouts, storyboards, and on-screen graphic frameworks for episodic YouTube series, full workflow tutorials, and scripted branded entertainment assets. Develop tight visual pacing, clear graphic templates, and aesthetic structures that keep viewers engaged.
  • Visual Identity & Style Execution: Adopt and protect our client’s brand design identity—modern, cultured, direct, and trustworthy. Craft art direction and graphic elements that feel like it’s coming from an authentic peer or mentor.
  • Hands-On Production & Collaboration: Actively participate in physical productions, walkthrough captures, and live editing sessions. Work directly with Copywriters, Videographers, Editors, and Creator Partners throughout the process to ensure content clarity.
  • Platform-Native Packaging: Apply rigorous platform visual optimizations and thumbnail formatting rules for YouTube. Design compelling, high-CTR video thumbnails and optimize long-form visual context cues.
  • Collaborative Concepting: Collaborate on structural series treatment ideas (such as formatting tutorial layouts into repeatable episodic franchises) to build a destination that professional creators subscribe to, screenshot, and share.
  • Presentation & Critique: Confidently present design decks, visual storyboards, and conceptual layouts to internal stakeholders and client leads. Iterate and adapt creative frameworks swiftly based on structural or brand feedback.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of digital advertising or professional content creation experience, with a distinct specialization in graphic design, art direction, and visual storytelling for long-form, episodic, or internet-native entertainment.
  • Hands-on video production experience is REQUIRED. Must have a deep understanding of setting up content capture workflows, collaborating directly on sets (studio or live environments), and working directly inside modern post-production pipelines.
  • Online Portfolio Requirement: Your submitted portfolio/reel link must feature an online portfolio demonstrating design/art direction capabilities in episodic, long-form content. Portfolio must feature one or more of the following explicit categories to be considered:
    • Long-form, episodic video design, digital series graphic frameworks, or style guides.
    • Highly structured visual content and thumbnail layouts designed specifically for YouTube distribution metrics.
    • Full visual art direction for branded entertainment films or video workflows.
  • Deep fluency in social platform trends, subcultures, and internet editing behavior.
  • Highly organized self-starter capable of managing design and asset workloads under tight, reactive turnaround cycles.

Optional Qualifications

  • Proven experience designing visual assets and graphic layouts optimized for personality-driven or host-led entertainment (talking heads, walkthrough explainers, or real-time reactions in portfolio).
  • Background designing or scripting highly technical and kinetic visual layouts for technical demos, feature walkthroughs, explainer content, or modern app software tutorials in portfolio.
  • Previous client campaign experience with highly aesthetic, design-centric, tech-driven, or content creation brands in portfolio (e.g., TikTok, Adobe, Google, Higgsfield, Apple, etc.).
  • Specific experience in portfolio showcasing long-form YouTube campaign rollouts or series aesthetics.
