Job Opportunity: Director of Design & Engineering

Position Overview:
Our Client is seeking a proactive and motivated Design & Engineering Director to lead their Design and Engineering Department. This role involves managing both internal and external schedules, developing and implementing policies and procedures, and collaborating with the Director of Technology Integration on technological advancements. The Director of Design & Engineering will report directly to the Vice President of Construction Services.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee incoming work and, in collaboration with Drafting & Engineering Managers, prioritize tasks and allocate resources effectively.
  • Assist the VP with staffing recommendations and manage staff performance reviews and compensation assessments.
  • Coordinate with Sales and Project Management teams to track both incoming and ongoing projects.
  • Evaluate and formalize agreements with outsourced firms, including setting expectations, schedules, and change order policies.
  • Work with Drafting Managers to establish and monitor staff performance expectations.
  • Collaborate with the Technology Integration team to update and maintain the Standard Practices Manual.
  • Address and resolve conflicts between the company and contractors or owners.
  • Attend project progress meetings with architects, engineers, contractors, and owners, and communicate relevant information to the Drafting and Engineering teams.
  • Monitor production schedules and notify Project Management of potential delays.
  • Read and interpret construction documents, addressing concerns with the design team.
  • Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, and other relevant software programs.
  • Manage submittal drawing schedules to ensure timely submissions.
  • Collaborate with accounting on departmental budgets and project costs.
  • Lead and develop the team, enhancing skills and talent within the department.
  • Work with the Talent Acquisition team to recruit new talent and serve as the division's liaison to local universities.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the precast industry.
  • Proven ability to train and mentor employees.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and drafting (Revit) and engineering (Eriksson) software platforms.
  • Willingness to travel, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Adaptability to changes aimed at achieving Best in Class status.

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, filing, and using office equipment.
  • Visual acuity for reading small print.
  • Hearing acuity for effective communication.
  • Ability to lift and move office supplies and equipment.
  • Mobility to move around the office as needed.

Working Conditions:
  • Moderate risk of exposure to unusual elements due to varying conditions at production facilities and construction sites.
