What Warehouse Operations contributes to Cardinal Health

  • Operations is responsible for materials handling and product distribution in a distribution or manufacturing environment. Includes warehousing and fulfillment of materials and products, transportation, inventory management as well as demand, supply and manufacturing planning.

  • Warehouse Operations is responsible for performing/controlling a combination of manual or automated tasks necessary for the receipt, storage, and shipment of product. This may include functions of receiving, picking, packing, shipping, staging, transporting, storage, delivery, etc. Also responsible for the efficient flow of products from the point of product receipt from vendors to the shipment of products (via prescribed service parameters) to a variety of internal and external customers.


Job Summary

  • The Manager, Warehouse Operations oversees the building’s inbound processing, including receiving, put away, and returns to achieve operational efficiency and safety. Through successful operational and people management, this job delivers on the business unit’s short-term goals, improves profitability, and develops the business unit’s warehouse talent. This job also responds to urgent customer needs or supply disruptions to ensure customer commitments are fulfilled.


Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and daily operational oversight for a team of 2 direct-report supervisors and approximately 50 indirect associates across Inbound and Quality/Inventory Control functions. 

  • Direct warehouse operations to ensure the safe, accurate, and timely receipt, storage, and distribution of medical products while meeting customer service, quality, productivity, and cost objectives. 

  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance productivity, quality, inventory accuracy, safety, and operational efficiency throughout the facility. 

  • Foster a culture of respect, accountability, engagement, teamwork, and operational excellence by providing visible leadership on the warehouse floor and within the office environment. 

  • Develop and implement operational strategies, programs, and process improvements that optimize labor utilization, warehouse throughput, and facility space utilization. 

  • Translate business objectives and organizational strategy into measurable departmental goals and executable operational plans. 

  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, standard operating procedures, quality requirements, and regulatory standards. 

  • Partner with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to proactively resolve issues, support business objectives, and participate in customer meetings and operational reviews as needed, including travel up to 10%. 

  • Lead the development of supervisors and associates through hiring, onboarding, coaching, training, performance management, succession planning, and career development initiatives. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners including Human Resources, Quality & Regulatory Affairs (QRA), Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Transportation, and Customer Service to drive operational effectiveness and business results. 

  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with employees, peers, customers, and leadership to promote a collaborative and high-performing work environment. 

  • Manage staffing requirements, conduct interviews, and make hiring decisions for supervisor, lead, and associate-level positions. 

  • Utilize warehouse management and reporting systems to monitor operational performance, analyze trends, and drive data-based decision-making. 

  • Establish and maintain accountability for shift and departmental KPI performance, ensuring supervisors achieve productivity, quality, safety, and service-level targets. 

  • Serve as the primary operational contact for Quality & Regulatory Affairs (QRA) compliance and ensure adherence to OSHA, DEA, FDA, Cardinal Health, state, and local regulatory requirements. 

  • Manage operating budgets, labor expenses, productivity performance, and site financial metrics, including profit-and-loss responsibilities. 

  • Adjust staffing plans, schedules, and operational priorities to meet changing customer demands and business requirements.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred

  • 8+ years of progressive leadership experience in warehouse, distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or supply chain operations preferred

  • Proven experience leading supervisors and large employee populations in a fast-paced operational environment. 

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization. 

  • Experience working in a warehouse, distribution center, or regulated healthcare environment preferred

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; experience utilizing Pivot Tables, data analysis, and reporting tools. 

  • Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and ERP systems such as SAP, Manhattan, or similar platforms preferred. 

  • Demonstrated success leading LSS continuous improvement initiatives, process optimization projects, and operational excellence programs. 

  • Strong understanding of distribution, logistics, inventory management, and warehouse operations. 

  • Experience operating within FDA, DEA, OSHA, or other regulated environments preferred. 

  • Knowledge of material handling equipment, warehouse workflows, and labor management practices preferred. 

  • Strong understanding of process flow, inventory control, quality systems, and workplace safety principles. 

  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions. 

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing business needs, and drive results in a dynamic environment. 

  • Strong leadership, coaching, team-building, and cross-functional collaboration skills with a focus on employee engagement and development.
