Fredericksburg, Virginia

Salary: $120,000 - $130,000 + Quarterly Bonus Eligibility

Are you an experienced healthcare quality leader looking for an opportunity to make a direct impact at the executive level? We are seeking a Director of Quality & Risk Management to join a highly respected inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

This is a key leadership position reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and partnering closely with regional quality leadership. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in quality improvement, patient safety, regulatory compliance, risk management, and organizational performance improvement within a healthcare setting.

About the Opportunity

This full-time, onsite leadership role is based at a 58-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital that provides specialized rehabilitative care to patients recovering from illness, injury, or surgery. The organization is focused on delivering exceptional patient outcomes while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

The Director of Quality & Risk Management serves as the facility's subject matter expert for quality improvement initiatives, accreditation readiness, patient safety programs, risk management activities, and patient experience efforts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all quality, patient safety, performance improvement, and risk management initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor quality improvement programs that support organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the primary leader during accreditation and regulatory surveys, including Joint Commission, CARF, and state inspections.
  • Create and execute corrective action plans and ensure ongoing survey readiness.
  • Oversee patient safety programs, event reporting, investigations, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Manage patient satisfaction and patient experience programs, including Press Ganey, NRC, and grievance management processes.
  • Partner closely with hospital leadership, physicians, and clinical teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze quality metrics and identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes and operational performance.
  • Lead conflict resolution efforts and support a culture of accountability, transparency, and patient-centered care.
  • Supervise and mentor the Patient Assessment Standards Coordinator (PASC).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Clinical licensure is highly preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in healthcare quality, patient safety, risk management, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement.
  • Experience leading Joint Commission, CARF, and/or state regulatory surveys.
  • Strong understanding of accreditation standards, corrective action planning, and survey readiness.
  • Experience managing patient satisfaction programs and grievance processes.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with frontline staff, patients, physicians, and executive leadership.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or related process improvement training and certifications are highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Stable career progression with demonstrated leadership tenure preferred.
