Our Corporate Merchandising team is seeking a strategic and results-driven REFURB BUYER to grow and optimize our refurbished, open-box, and recertified product assortments. This role is responsible for sourcing high-quality refurbished technology, building strong vendor partnerships, and delivering profitable, customer-centric offerings while maintaining Micro Center’s trusted standards. The ideal candidate brings strong merchant instincts, a data-driven mindset, and experience navigating secondary markets to create value across the full product lifecycle. Relocation assistance will be provided.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Source, evaluate, and procure refurbished, open-box, and recertified products across key technology categories
  • Develop and manage partnerships with OEMs, authorized refurbishers, liquidators, and service providers to ensure consistent supply and quality standards
  • Define grading standards, pricing strategies, and margin targets for refurbished merchandise to maximize profitability while delivering strong customer value
  • Negotiate and manage vendor-funded marketing, merchandising and VIR programs
  • Manage vendor relationships
  • Recommend, present, and direct the development and implementation of category strategies and tactical plans
  • Coordinate with the Web Development team and Marketing team to maximize merchandising opportunities
  • Collaborate with QA, Services, Operations, and Inventory teams to ensure refurbished product quality, warranty alignment, and proper lifecycle management
  • Analyze return streams, repair yields, and secondary market trends to identify new refurbished buying opportunities
  • Monitor competitive refurbished pricing and marketplace dynamics to maintain Micro Center’s value leadership
  • Accurately forecast to ensure proper stocking levels for top selling products
  • Collaborate and motivate other teams to achieve category objectives:
    • Distribution and Transportation
    • Retail stores (Sales and Operations)
    • Web Development
    • Marketing
    • Finance
    • Planning and Allocation

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S Degree in Retail Merchandising, Marketing, or Business preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience buying refurbished, open-box, returns, or secondary-market consumer electronics
  • Working knowledge of refurbishment processes, product grading, warranty programs, and reverse logistics
  • Strong negotiation skills needed
  • A proven track record of establishing and maintaining positive relationships with vendors
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with experience modeling yield, recovery rates, and profitability for refurbished inventory
  • Ability to balance speed-to-market with quality, brand standards, and customer trust
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Must be a team player
  • Knowledge of purchasing and forecasting systems required as well as proficiency in MS Office with an emphasis on Excel and Outlook
