Director, Technical Program Manager (Resiliency and Reliability Engineering)

Our TPM Directors have:
  • Strong technical backgrounds (ideally building highly scalable platforms, products, or services) with the ability to proactively identify and mitigate technical risks throughout delivery life-cycle
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills

  • A quantitative approach to problem solving and a collaborative implementer to holistic solutions; a systems thinker
  • Experience as a TPM leader to grow and develop a team of TPMs, while also building the foundations for the TPM practice

  • Exceptional cross-team collaboration; able to work across different functions, organizations, and reporting boundaries to get the job done.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 7 years of experience managing technical programs
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience designing and building data-intensive solutions using distributed computing
  • 3+ years of experience in building distributed systems and highly available services using cloud computing services or architecture
  • 3+ years of experience with site reliability engineering, observability, incident response, or disaster recovery programs at scale
  • 3+ years of experience driving resilience or reliability engineering initiatives โ€” including chaos engineering, failure mode analysis, or run-the-engine reduction programs
  • 3+ years of experience with Agile delivery
  • 3+ years of experience delivering large and complex programs โ€” where you own the business or technical vision, collaborate with large cross-functional teams, secure commitments on deliverables and unblock teams to land business impact
  • Experience in building systems & solutions within a highly regulated environment
  • MBA or Masterโ€™s Degree in a related technical field (Computer Science, Software Engineering) or equivalent experience

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $230,400 - $263,000 for Director, Technical Program Management

New York, NY: $251,400 - $286,900 for Director, Technical Program Management

Plano, TX: $209,500 - $239,100 for Director, Technical Program Management

Richmond, VA: $209,500 - $239,100 for Director, Technical Program Management

San Francisco, CA: $251,400 - $286,900 for Director, Technical Program Management

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidateโ€™s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
