Job description

American Vanguard Corporation (NYSE: AVD) is a diversified agricultural and specialty products company focusing on crop protection, turf and ornamental markets, and public health applications. We are seeking a Director, PMO to support our business improvement journey.


The Director, Program Management Office will support the CEO's Business Improvement Initiatives by managing and driving a portfolio of multiple strategic projects designed to deliver financial and operational value. The role focuses on strategic and tactical program management, risk identification and escalation and will report the values across the organization. The Director will require mastery of best-in-class PMO methodologies and overseeing the use of the appropriate methods and tools for program governance across the portfolio.


The Director PMO must demonstrate deep expertise in interdependency mapping, risk management and supervising complex programs to time and budget, with an ability to balance competing priorities. This position is integral in communicating and manifesting our vision of Prioritize, Simplify and Deliver to maximize how we support our employees and serve our customers.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide end-to-end delivery and oversight of program management and improvement initiatives
  • Serve as business partner across manufacturing, finance and operations to monitor risks, timing, and dependencies coordinating information sharing and communications
  • Report on programs progress across functions and workstreams for the Board and Global Business Units Leadership
  • Monitor program health to identify roadblocks to value realization, escalate risks to appropriate stakeholders and ideate solutions
  • Validate business cases and investment decisions coordinating closely with Finance
  • Apply project management best practices and ensure program / project teams are using appropriate tools and PMO methodologies
  • Coordinate program support across organizational boundaries including engaging support functions company-wide on a global basis
  • Deliver monthly dashboards and KPIs for each stakeholder and manage the monthly Global Leadership meeting
  • Track budgets, forecast variances, and report financial performance against approved business cases
  • Partner with HR and business leads to support change management activities, including stakeholder engagement, communication planning, and adoption tracking
  • Continuously improve PMO standards, templates, and governance frameworks to support a scalable and consistent operating model
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, consultants, and third-party partners engaged in transformation initiatives


Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree; preferably in a quantitative or business area
  • MBA a plus
  • PMP, LSSBB, CPC, CSM, CSPO or equivalent project/program management certification


Experience Requirements:

  • 8+ years of work experience in complex program management with demonstrated expertise in risk mitigation and governance successfully balancing competing priorities
  • 3+ years in a leadership capacity
  • Experience leading a program management office across multiple, complex strategic initiatives and disparate stakeholder groups in a company with global offices and partnerships
  • Strong financial acumen ideally in a public company
  • Manufacturing / Industry experience in the agriculture, chemical, manufacturing, or life sciences preferred
  • Project management software expertise (e.g., Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, etc.)
  • Change management principles and methodologies; i.e. Prosci Change Management or equivalent certifications a plus
  • Polished communication skills and experience presenting to senior management; external partners and all skill levels
  • Highly organized with a proven ability to collaborate across functions to drive results
  • Proficiency in data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent) to support executive-level dashboards and KPI reporting


This position reports directly to the CEO at American Vanguard (NYSE: AVD). This position is on-site based at our new office space (Irvine Spectrum), Some travel will be required.
