CDM Smith's CEI team in Tifton, GA is seeking a candidate to inspect and monitor construction activities at the project site(s). The inspector must be able to perform the most complex inspection activities for at least two of the five categories of construction inspection: roadway, bridges, drainage, erosion & control, maintenance & traffic. The candidate will work under limited or direct supervision depending on demonstrated knowledge for the assignment. Work requires knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction; knowledge of geometry and basic mathematics; ability to read, interpret and explain construction plans and drawings, contract provisions, and specifications; and strong communication ability.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform both complex and routine/standard inspections of construction to evaluate if appropriate materials and construction processes are used and that construction conforms to plans, specifications, and special provisions.
  • Use higher‑grade equipment and perform complex calculations to conduct construction inspections.
  • Work under limited or direct supervision depending on demonstrated knowledge for the assignment.
  • Review drawings to prepare for construction inspections.
  • Understand the design of the construction that will be inspected.
  • Document and communicate the results of inspections to the supervisor.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certifications from a state highway agency or national entity such as ACI (American Concrete Institute) or NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete if required by the client or jurisdiction.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Six years of related experience.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required; frequency of travel contingent on specific duties.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Driving Requirements

An appropriate and valid driver’s license is required.

Skills & Abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Intermediate knowledge of arithmetic.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer, smartphone or related applications and programs.
  • Advanced knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret, and explain construction plans, drawings, contract provisions, and specifications.
