Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Program Manager 1 IT at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for managing programs of multiple related projects that are directed toward the same strategic, business or organizational objectives while motivating and driving accountability to project teams which include both IT and business resources and providing program and project management guidance across teams.
Essential Functions
  • Manages programs/projects across multiple teams and stakeholders, including planning, management and execution of multiple related projects that are directed toward the same strategic, business or organizational objectives
  • Owns program execution from planning through delivery by proactively driving progress, removing blockers, escalating risks, and ensuring commitments are met
  • Identifies/manages issues across the designated portfolio
  • Demonstrates capability to be a diplomat, interacting and negotiating with high-level business managers, while also understanding and identifying the low-level needs of and risks to the project team
  • Ensures resources/projects are established to deliver the desired end state for Garmin
  • Delivers program status and summary program information to all business levels including executive
  • Identifies interdependencies in projects across the department and provides guidance for project management processes/procedures
  • Derives/executes cross departmental project and program management standardization and improvement efforts
  • Participates in project definition activities including feature analysis and system tradeoffs
  • Develops reliable solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity/creativity
  • Maintains accurate project plans, timelines, risks, issues, dependencies, and status reporting to ensure leadership has clear visibility into program health
  • Serves as a mentor to less experienced IT Project Manager (Project Manager 1, 2 & 3)
  • Takes responsibility to ensure quality project documentation is produced across the program
  • Motivates/drives accountability of project teams, other project managers and stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of programs/projects, including coordination of resources assigned to projects for which this person is responsible without direct authority
  • Serves as a leader of change
  • Attends/actively participates in department and facility meetings/classes
  • Encourages teams to utilize creative and innovative approaches to accomplish tasks
  • Demonstrates a strong sense of ownership, urgency, initiative, and follow-through in driving teams toward successful delivery
  • Demonstrates responsibility for personal development, professional growth and continuing education

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or related field AND a minimum of 9 years relevant work experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Experience managing projects using Agile or hybrid frameworks, including coordination with Product Owners, Business Analysts, developers, QA, and business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates mastery of Garmin-specific project/program management principles and industry standards
  • Demonstrated experience with a proven track record in successful implementation of technology solutions
  • Demonstrates broad understanding of Garmin's business model including Engineering, Operations, Finance, Sales & Marketing
  • Must demonstrate organizational, problem solving and project management abilities
  • Able to work independently and prioritize multiple objectives in a rapidly changing environment
  • Must possess proven knowledge and experience with evaluating workload and available resources and adjusting schedules and priorities as required
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a large team or departmental setting
  • Must be detail-oriented, able to work proactively/effectively with minimal supervision, able to prioritize/multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and changing environment, be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
  • Driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems
  • Demonstrates advanced proficiency in time management, organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality

Desired Qualifications
  • Certification in a nationally accredited program/project management discipline (ex. PMI, PMP, Six Sigma, Unified Rational, etc.)
  • Demonstrated understanding of IT web application software development lifecycles, including requirements, design, development, QA/testing, release planning, deployment, and post-release support.
  • Experience with automated testing tools and testing procedures
  • Previous network, security, and/or systems experience
  • Familiarity with and demonstrated understanding of IT Web Applications
  • Experience with and understanding of Product Support concepts and processes
  • Familiarity with database systems and large-scale application lifecycle management
  • Experience with release processes and SDLC
  • Experience successfully coordinating large scale globally based projects to move, add, and/or change aforementioned underlying technologies
