Job Title: Director, Health Information Management (HIM)

Location: Salina, KS, US, 67401 (100% Onsite)
Salary Range: $90,000 – $135,000 annually (based on education and experience)
Hourly Equivalent: $42.00 – $65.00 per hour
Relocation Assistance: Up to $5,000 (subject to discussion)

Position Summary

The Director of Health Information Management (HIM) is responsible for providing strategic leadership, direction, and oversight of all HIM operations within the healthcare system. This role ensures the integrity, accuracy, accessibility, and security of patient health information while maintaining compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.

The Director will oversee all aspects of health information processes including medical records management, coding, transcription, data integrity, and release of information. This position works closely with clinical, administrative, and executive leadership to support organizational goals and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all Health Information Management department operations
  • Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance in medical coding (acute and ambulatory)
  • Oversee record processing, completion, indexing, and storage systems
  • Manage release of information processes in compliance with regulations
  • Supervise transcription, trauma registry, and data abstraction activities
  • Establish, implement, and monitor HIM policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other applicable regulations
  • Collaborate with physicians regarding documentation and suspension processes
  • Maintain data integrity and support system-wide information governance
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance management for HIM staff
  • Act as the organizational representative for HIM-related functions

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management, Health Information Science, or a related field (required or in progress)

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of management or supervisory experience (required)
  • Minimum 5 years of medical coding experience (required)
  • Experience with HIPAA and healthcare compliance standards (preferred)

Certifications:

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) – Required
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) – Highly Preferred

Licensure:

  • Must meet applicable state licensure requirements (Kansas)
