The Director of Transportation provides strategic and operational leadership for transportation across a regional network. This role is accountable for optimizing cost-to-serve, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering reliable service performance while leading teams and managing carrier and fleet operations.

This role oversees a team of leaders, executes strategy at the regional level, and drives cross-functional results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead regional transportation strategy execution to optimize cost, service, and operational performance
  • Oversee fleet operations and third-party carrier relationships, including contract negotiation and performance management
  • Partner with Distribution Operations, Customer Service, Finance, HR, Legal, and Quality to drive aligned outcomes
  • Ensure compliance with all transportation regulations and company policies
  • Own and manage the regional transportation budget, identifying opportunities to improve cost-to-serve and financial performance
  • Drive implementation of national transportation initiatives and ensure alignment with customer delivery expectations
  • Establish and monitor KPIs related to cost, service, and network performance
  • Lead and develop a team of managers and individual contributors, fostering a high-performance, engaged culture
  • Act as an escalation point for complex operational issues impacting service, cost, or delivery performance
  • Translate strategic priorities into actionable plans and ensure successful execution across the region
  • Travel up to 20%

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in transportation, logistics, or distribution, including leadership experience
  • Proven experience managing transportation operations, carriers, and cost-to-serve performance
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and driving cost efficiency
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and lead cross-functional initiatives

Preferred:

  • Post-graduate certification (e.g., CITT)
  • Experience in regulated industries (e.g., pharmaceutical distribution)
  • Direct-to-store delivery (DSD) or last-mile transportation experience
  • Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and routing optimization tools
  • Experience in fleet management and carrier sourcing
  • Bilingual (English/French) an asset
