The Shared Services Engineering – Authorization team is seeking a hands‑on Director to lead and execute the modernization of the authorization platform into cloud‑native solutions, with direct accountability for Tier‑0 reliability and 24×7 availability. As Director, Software Engineering within Brokerage Recordkeeping Technology (BRT), you will lead high performing engineering teams and collaborate closely with product and platform partners to deliver a modern, unified authorization framework.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong background in cloud technologies, product development, and experience leading technical teams in an agile fashion. They will be able to navigate and manage technical complexities while developing secure and scalable solutions for our customers. You will be responsible for ensuring operational excellence and maintaining continuous availability of mission-critical systems that power our authorization platform.

The Team

This Team is Fidelity’s core authorization team, responsible for building and operating the platform that underpins enterprise security and scalability. As part of Shared Services Engineering, the team modernizes authorization capabilities from mainframe to cloud‑native architectures and delivers secure platforms, and frameworks that enable Fidelity Brokerage Recordkeeping Technology to leverage the public cloud at scale.

The Expertise You Have

  • Bachelor's or master's degree with 12 years of knowledge and experience working in software and cloud infrastructure engineering with various technology platforms.

  • Experience Handling INC management / Problem Management of Tier 0 platforms and driving 24x7 operational excellence.

  • Experience managing business priorities and understanding how to make tradeoffs when considering pace over perfection.

  • Proven expertise leveraging AWS cloud services to architect and deliver production‑grade, cloud‑native systems, with hands‑on experience designing and building containerized applications using Java and Micronaut.

  • Assist VP of Engineering in developing and implementing a multi-year technology strategy for Authorization platforms aligned with enterprise priorities.

  • Experience directing technical teams in an Agile/Scrum environment.

  • Lead modernization of authorization components, migrating from legacy mainframe implementations to cloud‑native, policy‑driven, and scalable architectures.

  • Engineering Excellence Champion best practices in system design, development, and operations—emphasizing scalability, compliance, and fault tolerance.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Align engineering efforts with business priorities and partner across product, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver integrated solutions.

  • Innovation and Culture Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement across globally distributed teams.

  • Architectural Influence Drive architectural decisions that enhance the security posture and operational scalability of enterprise platforms.

  • Preferred Experience leveraging AI‑assisted tools to improve engineering productivity, operational efficiency, or developer workflows.

  • Preferred experience in retail financial markets or another highly regulated industry.
