The main difference is that the Director Operational Technology Engineer specializes in OT systems' technical aspects, security, and infrastructure, while the Operations Manager oversees broader operational processes and team management. Both roles are vital but focus on different areas within industrial and operational environments.

What is a Director Operational Technology Engineer?

A Director Operational Technology (OT) Engineer is a senior leader responsible for overseeing the integration, management, and security of operational technology systems within an organization. These professionals bridge the gap between IT (Information Technology) and OT systems, ensuring that industrial control systems, manufacturing equipment, and other critical infrastructure operate efficiently and securely. Their role involves developing strategies, leading teams, and implementing best practices to optimize OT environments while safeguarding them from cyber threats. They typically collaborate with cross-functional teams and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Director Operational Technology Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Director Operational Technology Engineer, you need deep expertise in industrial control systems, cybersecurity, and automation, typically supported by an engineering degree and extensive leadership experience. Familiarity with SCADA systems, PLC programming, network security tools, and relevant certifications like CISSP or ISA/IEC 62443 is crucial. Exceptional strategic thinking, communication, and team leadership skills set top candidates apart in this role. These skills and qualities are vital to ensure safe, efficient, and secure OT operations while driving innovation and compliance across complex industrial environments.

How does a Director Operational Technology Engineer typically collaborate with other departments to ensure the security and efficiency of industrial control systems?

A Director Operational Technology Engineer frequently works cross-functionally with IT, cybersecurity, and operations teams to align technology initiatives with business goals. This collaboration involves regular meetings to assess risk, develop security protocols, and troubleshoot issues impacting production systems. By fostering open communication and coordinating on projects, the Director ensures that industrial control systems remain secure, efficient, and compliant with regulatory standards. This role often leads multidisciplinary teams during system upgrades or incident responses, ensuring seamless integration and minimal downtime.

The Valley View site is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for a discrete-part manufacturing plant, responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes for discrete-parts production.

This role improves production efficiency, quality, and safety by collaborating with production teams, Quality Assurance, and R&D to ensure manufacturing processes meet industry standards and customer specifications. The engineer supports capital projects and partners on continuous improvement efforts with Operations and R&D. Key expectations include project management, solving customer problems, mentoring less experienced engineers, applying strong technical judgment to identify process improvement opportunities, evaluating the impact of process changes on material properties, leading capital projects, and identifying more efficient production methods.

Your key responsibilities will be/what you'll do:

  • Conduct work activities and demonstrate leadership behavior consistent with DuPont Core Values.
  • Provide daily technical support to Operations including process optimization, troubleshooting, root cause analysis and risk analysis.
  • Assist with implementing solutions to improve processes (yield, uptime, and capacity release).
  • Provide technical leadership and support for plant capital projects, including design, capital justification, and commissioning activities.
  • Work closely with production management to develop production strategies and systems that improve manufacturing performance.
  • Work with Commercial and Quality teams to respond to customer inquiries and/or quality notifications.
  • Interface with Technology and Business resources to develop innovations and coordinate product rollouts to the facility.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Polymer Engineering (preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role or related industry.
  • Experience in thermoset and thermoplastic molding preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Proficient in CAD software and other relevant engineering tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex process and production issues using multiple disciplined teams and data driven analysis.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects/tasks, adapt to changing conditions and balance a "big picture" focus with detailed execution.
  • This position requires access to export-controlled technology, technical data or defense services, as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access export-controlled technology, technical data or defense services as authorized to US regulation or an export authorization obtained by DuPont approved by the controlling US government agency.
