The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Bureau of Workers' Compensation Specialist/Patient Access Coordinator (BWC/PAC) is responsible for providing excellent customer service while processing patient demographic and insurance information efficiently and accurately. Areas of the BWC Specialist include pre-registration, registration, scheduling, billing, claims follow-up, customer service and cash collection. The primary responsibility of the BWC Specialist is to ensure that all workers' compensation related injured/ill patients are authorized by his/her employer to be seen and treated, has the needed BWC paperwork completed and assists the providers in fulfilling the treatment needs of the injured/ill worker from the time the patient presents until the patient is discharged from care.
The BWC Specialist is an expert in product, process or service line area (physician appointment scheduling, , full service scheduling; pre- registration and registration; and communication). This position is responsible for providing consumers (clinical staff and patients) with accurate, up-to-date information regarding products, services and general procedures. Schedule return appointments and/or other appointments as assigned. Assures accurate appointment, demographic and is gathered to support clinical needs or other patient information. Provides support to physicians and consumer by coordinating their requests and satisfying their needs in one transaction. Solves routine and complex customer problems and knows where to direct customers to address specific questions. Communicates regularly with clinical staff, medical secretaries, and staff within the product/service line to ensure customer and department staff needs are met. Always creates a positive first impression. Must be able to use a variety of software packages which include the Electronic Medical record, scheduling, and registration systems, document management software, and etc.
The BWC Specialist has the above skill sets but is primarily focused on the injured/ill worker. The worker presenting for treatment may be an internal or external client. The BWC specialist is involved in the continuum of care from obtaining authorization from the employer, the BWC and works with the provider to set up specialist appointments and ancillary care.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED. Certification or vocational training may be preferred. 1 year of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
