Job Description

The System Director of Risk Management partners with clinicians and healthcare facilities to identify and mitigate risks impacting patients, staff, and the organization. Reporting to the System VP of Quality and Patient Safety, this role leads proactive risk management strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance while fostering a culture of safety and high-quality patient care.

Your Leadership in Action 

  • Provides expert consultation on risk management issues, including incidents, claims, regulatory standards, patient rights, and disclosure practices
  • Assesses and manages clinical risks by evaluating adverse events, supporting claims investigations, and implementing strategies to reduce potential harm and loss
  • Delivers education and guidance to staff and leadership on risk management, patient safety, and compliance requirements
  • Collaborates with leadership, committees, and regulatory agencies to support reporting, accreditation readiness, and ongoing quality and safety initiatives
  • Ensures compliance with legal, regulatory, and organizational standards while safeguarding confidentiality and promoting a culture of patient safety
  • Oversees and assists the Patient Relations team, Clinical Risk Management, and Interpreter Services 
Qualifications

What's Required  

  • Bachelor's degree in a clinical field, Healthcare Administration, or related discipline required; graduate degree preferred, along with strong clinical knowledge and risk management experience.
  • Ability to obtain Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) certification within two years of hire.
  • Knowledgeable of CMS, Joint Commission, and other regulatory requirement
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with physicians, nurses, healthcare professionals, insurers, and legal partners while exercising sound independent judgment.
  • Proven analytical and organizational abilities, including collecting, synthesizing, and interpreting complex data related to patient safety and risk management, with proficiency in computer systems and documentation tools.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, professionalism under pressure, and the ability to manage confidential, sensitive situations while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., CMS, Joint Commission)

Preferred:

  • Minimum 5-7 years experience as a Director of Risk Management
