Manager - Strategic Risk Management

General Motors is looking for a proactive, collaborative, and strategic professional to join our Strategic Risk Management team. In this role, you will help identify, assess, and communicate the risks that matter most to the enterprise, enabling GM to make informed decisions and stay focused on its strategic objectives.
This is a high-visibility opportunity to work across the company, partner with senior leaders, and help shape how GM manages risk in a dynamic business environment.
What you'll do
  • Lead key elements of GM's strategic risk assessment process, including corporate surveys, senior leader workshops, and Board-level risk input
  • Analyze risk insights and translate them into clear, actionable recommendations for leadership
  • Develop high-impact communications and presentations for senior executives and the Board on risk assessment results and emerging risk updates
  • Strengthen and evolve the risk assessment process, including exploring advanced technologies and methods to support a more real-time view of risk
  • Provide consultative support to business units across the enterprise on:
    • Risk analysis techniques
    • Integration of risk management practices
    • Leadership reporting on top risks
  • Coordinate information sharing across risk, control, compliance, and related functions to improve enterprise alignment
  • Plan and lead Risk Advisory Council meetings to communicate critical risk information across the organization
  • Facilitate risk analysis, decision-support, and strategy workshops with leaders across the enterprise
  • Lead Operational Risk Management activities, including evaluating control effectiveness, identifying process improvements, and advising on risk and control matters
  • Support crisis response reviews by identifying drivers and root causes and helping strengthen brand and reputational resilience
  • Develop and deliver risk training and education as needed

  • Strong executive presence and comfort operating in high-visibility settings, including exposure to EST/SOT-level leadership

  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to thrive in a high-performing team environment
  • Curiosity about how geopolitical, economic, regulatory, and competitive developments may affect General Motors

Required qualifications
  • 10+ years of relevant business experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, marketing, communications, strategy, or a related field
  • Exposure to GM's business and/or the automotive industry
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint
  • Experience with advanced analytics and AI tools to enhance insights and boost efficiency
  • Proven ability to work effectively with minimal supervision

Preferred qualifications
  • Experience in enterprise risk management, Board communications, and/or business strategy
  • Master's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field
  • Ability to think creatively, challenge assumptions, and elevate strategic discussions
  • Experience with data analytics and the ability to draw clear conclusions from complex data sets

Location: Hybrid. This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the - Global HQ Hudson Building in Detroit, Mi three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business]
