JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Development (MD, DC, VA) is a senior fundraising leader responsible for overseeing and growing VOACCโ€™s philanthropic efforts across the Maryland, DC, and Virginia region. Reporting to the Executive Director of Development & Marketing, the Director manages regional individual, corporate and foundation giving, grant development, and fundraising events. This role is directly responsible for cultivating and stewarding a portfolio of major donors, partners, and community organizations, while managing a Development Manager and Senior Manager of Corporate Partnerships

The Director will also collaborate closely with the Marketing & Communications team to align storytelling and donor engagement efforts and contribute to VOACCโ€™s organization-wide fundraising and strategic revenue goals.

This is a primarily remote role. Candidates must live within the DMV area and be able to attend in-person meetings, donor visits, events, and team gatherings as needed.

This position offers clear opportunities for growth as VOACC continues to expand its development structure and regional fundraising footprint.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Fundraising Strategy & Execution

  • Lead regional fundraising strategy across major gifts, individual giving, corporate partnerships, and foundation support.

  • Manage a portfolio of major donors and institutional funders, driving cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

  • Oversee regional fundraising events and donor engagement experiences.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to set annual revenue goals and long-term growth strategies.


Team Management & Supervision

  • Supervise the Development Manager and Senior Manager of Corporate Partnerships.

  • Foster an accountable, collaborative, high-performing fundraising culture.

  • Provide professional development and mentorship.

Grants & Institutional Partnerships

  • Identify and pursue grant opportunities that align with regional programs and strategic priorities.

  • Partner with Grant-Writer and program leaders to shape compelling proposals and reports.

  • Engage and build partnerships with foundations, faith communities and civic organizations.


Collaboration & Communication

  • Work with the Executive Director of Development & Marketing to shape messaging and outreach strategies tailored to regional fundraising goals.

  • Partner with the Marketing & Communications Coordinator to create compelling donor communications, fundraising collateral, and impact storytelling.

  • Liaise with program staff to arrange donor site visits, success stories, and volunteer experiences.


Data Management & Reporting

  • Provide strategic oversight of donor data and fundraising analytics to support goal setting, segmentation, and campaign planning.

  • Ensure data integrity and best practices in donor recordkeeping by supervising the Development Managerโ€™s use of Blackbaud Raiserโ€™s Edge NXT.

  • Review fundraising reports, dashboards, and trends to inform strategy and track regional progress against goals.

  • Partner with the Accounting Department and Development Manager to ensure accurate reconciliation and timely gift processing.

  • Use data insights to recommend improvements in donor engagement, retention, and stewardship strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree required; CFRE or advanced credentials preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive fundraising experience, including major gifts and donor-facing work.

  • At least 3 years of supervisory or team leadership experience.

  • Demonstrated success with individual donors, foundations, or corporate partners.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with fundraising CRMs; Raiserโ€™s Edge NXT experience preferred.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities with excellence.

  • Ability to travel throughout MD, DC, and VA (up to 50%).
