Director of Logistics and Transportation - Food Manufacturing and Distribution - Base Salary to 155k/year - Harrisburg, PA

  • Our client is a growing food manufacturing, agriculture, and distribution organization specializing in the cultivation, processing, storage, transportation, and distribution of fresh produce products. They are seeking a Director of Logistics and Transportation to provide strategic leadership for transportation, fleet operations, freight brokerage, carrier management, and logistics network optimization across multiple business units.
  • This leadership role is responsible for overseeing both asset-based transportation operations and third-party logistics networks while driving operational excellence, transportation efficiency, cost control, customer satisfaction, and organizational growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for transportation operations, freight brokerage, carrier management, logistics network optimization, and distribution activities across the organization.
  • Oversee both asset-based transportation fleets and non-asset-based logistics operations, ensuring efficient utilization of transportation resources and optimal service levels.
  • Direct third-party logistics providers, freight brokerage activities, carrier procurement efforts, and capacity planning initiatives to support customer requirements and operational objectives.
  • Establish, monitor, and continuously improve key performance indicators related to transportation costs, fleet utilization, on-time delivery performance, carrier effectiveness, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve freight spend, transportation efficiency, asset utilization, routing strategies, and overall supply chain performance.
  • Lead contract negotiations and maintain strategic relationships with carriers, vendors, transportation partners, and key service providers.
  • Develop transportation strategies that support organizational growth while maintaining service quality and operational scalability.
  • Manage departmental budgets, capital expenditures, forecasting activities, and transportation-related profit and loss responsibilities.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop logistics, dispatch, transportation, and driver teams while fostering a performance-driven and safety-focused culture.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to transportation management, logistics operations, fleet performance, and supply chain best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable transportation regulations, company policies, and workplace safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in a senior-level logistics, transportation, or supply chain leadership role within the Food and Beverage, Produce, Agriculture, or related industries.
  • Experience leading both asset-based transportation operations and third-party logistics networks.
  • Robust background managing large-scale transportation, fleet operations, freight brokerage, carrier management, logistics networks, and distribution operations.
  • Strong understanding of transportation operations, fleet management, freight brokerage, carrier procurement, logistics planning, and supply chain best practices.
  • Experience managing budgets, capital expenditures, forecasting processes, and profit and loss responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated track record of driving operational excellence, process improvement, transportation efficiency, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Experience leading, developing, and mentoring teams consisting of drivers, dispatchers, logistics personnel, and transportation support staff.
  • Hands-on, results-driven leadership style with the ability to support growth initiatives across multiple business units.

Compensation:

  • Base salary in the 140k - 155k/year range.
