Job description

 

Devil Mountain Wholesale Nursery — Southern California · Hybrid (partially remote with regular on-site support across SoCal locations) 

The IT & Systems Administrator is responsible for providing on-site and remote technology support across regional locations. This role serves as the primary hands-on IT resource for regional yards and offices, supporting end users, maintaining systems and infrastructure, and administering the company’s Microsoft 365 and identity management environment.

Under the management of the Director of IT, the IT & Systems Administrator works closely with the broader IT team and collaborates with outsourced IT consultants on larger infrastructure projects. Early in this role, the position will play a lead part in implementing a new remote monitoring and management (RMM) / endpoint management platform across all locations. Occasional travel to support locations outside your assigned region may be required.


Primary Responsibilities:

On-Site Support — Regional Locations

  • Travel regularly to regional locations to provide hands-on support for workstations, point of sale systems, printers, networking equipment, mobile devices, and general user needs.
  • Provide IT setup for office moves, new location openings, and hardware installations.
  • Configure and deploy mobile devices including iPads and smartphones.
  • Serve as the primary technology contact for regional location staff.

Microsoft 365 & Identity Administration 

  • Administer Microsoft 365 including Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams.
  • Manage Entra ID (Azure AD), including user lifecycle, licensing, SSO, MFA, and Conditional Access policies.
  • Support hybrid identity environments including Entra Connect, Active Directory, and Intune-managed endpoints.
  • Automate routine administration tasks using PowerShell.

Systems Implementation and Support

  • Lead and support implementation and ongoing administration of new systems as the department develops.
  • Provide day-to-day support and administration across the company application stack, including NetSuite (ERP), Celigo, RingCentral, and point-of-sale systems.
  • Collaborate with the IT team and vendors on system integrations, access reviews, and projects.
  • Assist outsourced IT consultants with installation, deployment, repair, and maintenance of network and computer systems.
  • Monitor performance of existing computer systems and IT infrastructure.
  • Maintain, repair, and upgrade hardware and software systems.

General IT Operations

  • Manage endpoint lifecycle including imaging, patching, hardware inventory, and asset tracking.
  • Create user accounts and administer access controls.
  • Maintain records of all computer hardware and track hardware locations.
  • Document configurations, processes, and end-user guides; back up and archive data.
  • Work with vendors to maintain and upgrade infrastructure.
  • Assist with desktop and helpdesk support.
  • Partners with the other regional IT & Systems Administrator to ensure all is consistent across the entire company. 
  • Acts as back-up to the other regional IT & System Admin
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Experience and other requirements:

Required

  • 5+ years of IT / systems administration and end-user support experience.
  • Demonstrated Microsoft 365 and Entra ID (Azure AD) administration experience.
  • Working knowledge of Intune / endpoint management, Conditional Access, and MFA.
  • PowerShell scripting for automation.
  • Solid Windows Server, Active Directory, and networking fundamentals.
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Must hold a valid CA driver’s license and be willing to travel regularly to Southern California locations.
  • Must be able to pass a background screening.

Preferred

  • Experience implementing or administering an RMM / endpoint management platform.
  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., MS-102, AZ-104, SC-300, MD-102).
  • Experience supporting multi-site, retail, or distribution environments.
  • Familiarity with NetSuite, Celigo, or similar ERP / iPaaS platforms.
  • Working knowledge of virtualization, VMWare, or equivalent.
  • Desktop and helpdesk support experience.

 

Job Specifications:

This is a hybrid position with regular, expected on-site presence at Southern California locations. The employee must be based within reasonable driving distance of the Southern California region. Remote work is available on a partial basis; exceptions to on-site requirements require approval by upper management.

The role requires frequent travel between nursery yards and offices. Work is performed in both office and nursery yard environments, including exposure to outdoor weather conditions and uneven ground surfaces. 

Physical requirements include the ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods, extensive typing and 10-key use, gross grasping and use of hands and fingers, and lifting up to 20 lbs. approximately 20% of the time.
