Location: Chantilly, VAย 
Environment: Medical Detox Treatment Facilityย 
Schedule: Monday to Friday + Rotating On Call Schedule

About The Role:
The Director of Nursing is responsible for oversight and management of nursing services within the inpatient, residential, and/or detoxification treatment program. This role ensures safe, compliant, and high-quality nursing care delivery, medication management, and nursing documentation practices. The Director of Nursing leads nursing staff, manages nursing operations, and maintains regulatory readiness for nursing services in accordance with State, BHA, RCCF, and TJC standards.
The Director of Nursing partners closely with the Behavioral Health Technician Manager to ensure coordinated care delivery and a high-functioning multidisciplinary environment. This role focuses on nursing management and nursing regulatory functions.
While reporting to the Site Director and supervising the Behavioral Health Technician Manager, the Director of Nursing plays a key role in preserving leadership cohesion and trust across the site leadership team. The role models collaborative leadership, shared accountability, and unified messaging so that staff experience stability, clarity, and aligned support across departments.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care Management:
  • Oversee nursing care for all clients in the detoxification program.
  • Provide medical expertise and supervision in managing withdrawal symptoms and detox protocols.
  • Perform intake assessments, monitor client progress, and administer medications per physician orders.
  • Ensure compliance with medication management, lab work, and infection control protocols.

Team Supervision & Development:
  • Directly supervise and develop the nursing and behavioral health technician teams.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, implement development plans, and oversee staffing, scheduling, and hiring.
  • Provide training and competency assessments for nursing and behavioral health technician staff.

Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance:
  • Ensure compliance with state regulations, OSHA standards, and accreditation requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Compliance Officer to maintain high-quality medical standards.
  • Oversee incident reporting, risk management, and safety protocols.

Operations & Program Management:
  • Oversee supply management and budget-conscious purchasing for the nursing department.
  • Monitor electronic health records (EHR) documentation and ensure accuracy in medical charting.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and performance improvement initiatives.

Education Licensing Requirements:
  • An active RN license in good standing with the ability to practice in the state of Virginia is required.
  • An active CPR / BLS certification is required.
  • A valid driver's License and clean driving history is required.

Experience Requirements:
  • Experience handling behavioral crises and utilizing therapeutic de-escalation strategies to ensure client and staff safety is required.
  • 3+ yearsโ€™ experience in a healthcare setting working with individuals managing mental health, substance use, or co-occurring disorders is required, ideally with clients ages 13-30.
  • Knowledge of Detox process, protocols, and best practices is required.
  • Prior nursing leadership or charge nurse experience preferred .
