Job description

We seek a Director of Engineering with a highway or bridge background to join our growing Western NY operations within our Rochester, NY, office. The Director will oversee the WNY Engineering Department, including providing services to key clients for highways, bridges, and facilities outside of Buffalo and Rochester. We work in a collaborative and team-oriented environment on various transportation projects for federal, state, local, and private clients. We want to grow our management team with individuals who possess a strong work ethic and a desire to grow and mentor the next generation. Responsibilities

  • Guide Business Development for the department with new and existing clients in Regions 4, 5 and 6 (NYSDOT, County, City, Villages). Efforts to be Supported by our Senior Project Managers.
  • Guide Engineering PM's regarding negotiations, scope, schedule, budget, billing and staff resourcing.
  • Directing the engineering team as a technical and project lead for highways which may include the following tasks:
    • Familiarity with the requirements to develop design Plans for roadway projects: including pavement restoration, ADA compliance, Signage and Pavement markings, Multi-use Facilities for Pedestrians/Bicyclists, Work zone traffic control design, complete streets, drainage improvements.
    • Guide staff in the development of Contract specifications, cost estimates and preparation of contract bid documents.
  • Coordination with and a general understanding of other disciplines, including structures, signalization, environmental/permitting, lighting, utilities, Survey, and Right-of-Way acquisition.
  • Provide Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) for engineering deliverables
  • Communicate effectively and proactively to address client queries.
  • Establish client relationships and be involved with marketing, go/no go decisions and proposal development, as supported by Engineering PMs and Marketing Director.
  • Participation as a GPI representative within local Engineering Organizations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • New York State Professional Engineer (PE) required.
  • 10 + years of transportation design and project management experience
  • Shall be self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and demonstrate leadership skills with a desire for growth.
  • Knowledge of NYSDOT's Locally Administered Federal Aid project process and NYSDOT Standards.
  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) is a plus.
