Director, Engineering

Position Summary:

  • 100% on-site

Greendale is one of two gummy technology development and manufacturing facilities in North America. The site has the capability to manufacture traditional gelatin gummies as well as 100% plant-based pectin gummies for nutritional supplements and nutraceuticals. With extensive development and manufacturing expertise and a wide range of flavors, shapes, sizes, and colors available, we can work with complex ingredients to help create engaging new products consumers will love.

The Director, Engineering will provide strategic leadership and oversight for all site engineering functions, including maintenance, facilities, utilities, capital projects, packaging engineering, and process engineering. This role is responsible for ensuring reliable, compliant, and efficient operations across manufacturing and packaging through disciplined asset management, engineering excellence, and execution of both minor and major capital projects.

The Director will lead, develop, and coach a multi-disciplinary engineering organization to deliver maximum asset reliability, operational performance, and continuous improvement. Own the Site Master Plan, and capital strategy to align infrastructure, technology, and capacity with current and future business needs. Accountable for ensuring all engineering, maintenance, and facilities activities fully comply with site, corporate, and regulatory requirements, including cGMP, safety, and environmental standards, while supporting audit readiness and inspection success.

The Role:

  • Provide direct and indirect leadership to maintenance and facilities teams, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient execution of all activities.

  • Oversee facilities, utilities, and infrastructure to ensure operational readiness, environmental compliance, regulatory adherence, and long-term facility integrity.

  • Lead Process Engineering to improve manufacturing robustness, yield, and throughput through data-driven process optimization and problem solving.

  • Lead Packaging Engineering to ensure packaging line performance, technical transfer, equipment capability, and continuous improvement of packaging operations.

  • Own and execute the capital project portfolio, including both minor and major engineering projects from concept through commissioning, qualification, and validation.

  • Prioritize and manage capital allocation to maximize ROI, capacity expansion, compliance, and operational efficiency.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineering leaders, engineers, and technicians; build organizational capability and technical depth while continuously assessing talent, building bench strength, and ensuring succession readiness across critical roles in a complex, fast-paced environment.

  • Own engineering performance metrics, including asset reliability, OEE, project execution, and compliance indicators, and lead disciplined execution against CAPEX and R&M budgets to deliver both short- and long-term business outcomes.

  • Contribute as a key member of the site leadership team, shaping site strategy, operational priorities, and resource allocation to enable delivery of business objectives in a complex, dynamic environment.

  • Drive proactive identification and mitigation of compliance risks related to equipment, utilities, facilities, and engineering processes.

  • Other duties as assigned.

The Candidate:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering; advanced degree (MS or MBA) preferred MBA a plus.

  • 10+ years engineering, continuous improvement, manufacturing technology, validation.

  • 5+ years management experience and in a regulated industry.

  • Strong analytical/problem solving/process improvement skills. Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred.

  • Knowledge/Skills Requirements: Combustible Dust and Wastewater Management experience preferred.

  • Understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and utility systems.

  • Strong leadership skills, with an ability to partner, build trust, provide direction, and execute with excellence. Ability to prioritize and follow-through to achieve results and meet deadlines.

  • Strong foundation interpersonal communication concepts, specifically, written, oral, presentation, listening, and facilitation skills. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

  • OSHA 10 or equivalent training.

  • Demonstrable leadership experience at Catalent (including but not limited to participation in Catalent-sponsored leadership programs such as NGGL, GOLD, LEAD Now, GM Excellence, and GROW) may be considered in place of external experience.
