What We Are Looking For

The General Foreman for Building Construction is responsible for leading and directing multiple field crews and subcontractors performing vertical construction activities, including site preparation, foundations, concrete work, structural framing, masonry, roofing, building envelope, interior build-out, finishes, and coordination of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades. This position plays a critical leadership role in ensuring building projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with architectural and structural drawings, specifications, building codes, customer requirements, company standards, and regulatory requirements.

The General Foreman manages Foremen, Working Foremen, Carpenters, Concrete Crews, Laborers, Equipment Operators, Finishing Crews, and other field personnel while coordinating subcontractors, materials, equipment, schedules, inspections, and production goals across active building construction projects.

Success in the first 12 months includes maintaining a strong safety culture, achieving production targets, delivering high-quality building work, developing high-performing crews, supporting customer satisfaction, passing required inspections, and ensuring operational excellence across assigned construction projects.

What You Will Do

• Lead, supervise, and support multiple field crews and subcontractors performing building construction activities, including site preparation, foundations, concrete placement, structural framing, masonry, roofing, building envelope, interior build-out, finishes, and punch-list work.
• Plan, organize, and coordinate daily work activities to ensure building projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to architectural drawings, structural drawings, specifications, schedules, and applicable building codes.
• Monitor productivity, quality, staffing levels, equipment utilization, and operational performance across assigned work zones.
• Conduct field inspections, job site audits, and safety observations to ensure compliance with OSHA, company policies, and project requirements.
• Promote and enforce safety standards, hazard mitigation practices, fall protection requirements, housekeeping expectations, and building construction best practices.
• Train, mentor, and develop Foremen and field personnel to improve performance, technical skills, and career growth.
• Review and approve employee time records, production reports, daily logs, and operational documentation.
• Coordinate equipment, vehicles, tools, materials, and subcontractor resources to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
• Communicate effectively with architects, engineers, project managers, superintendents, inspectors, subcontractors, property owners, suppliers, and internal leadership.
• Coordinate trade sequencing and daily field execution for carpentry, concrete, masonry, roofing, drywall, painting, flooring, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other building trades.
• Review work for quality, dimensional accuracy, code compliance, finish standards, and readiness for inspections or turnover milestones.
• Identify and resolve field issues, drawing conflicts, trade coordination challenges, schedule delays, quality concerns, and inspection deficiencies; implement corrective actions as needed.
• Support recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and workforce planning activities.
• Assist leadership with budgeting, forecasting, production planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in building construction, commercial construction, residential construction, concrete, carpentry, structural work, interior build-out, or related field operations.
• Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience leading crews or subcontractors on building construction projects.
• Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
• Demonstrated ability to lead field operations and manage multiple building construction activities, trades, and work areas simultaneously.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA construction safety requirements, fall protection, scaffolding, concrete safety, material handling, tool safety, housekeeping, and active building construction site controls.
• Ability to read, interpret, and communicate architectural drawings, structural drawings, shop drawings, specifications, layouts, and construction schedules.
• Working knowledge of building codes, inspection processes, quality standards, and trade sequencing for vertical construction projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications such as OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, Fall Protection, Scaffold Competent Person, ACI Concrete, NCCER, or equivalent industry credentials.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B.
• Experience working on commercial buildings, residential developments, institutional facilities, warehouses, renovations, tenant improvements, or other vertical construction projects.
• Experience coordinating multiple building trades, including carpentry, concrete, masonry, roofing, drywall, painting, flooring, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC subcontractors.
• Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.

What to Expect

This role requires a combination of field leadership, trade coordination, operational management, and administrative responsibilities. Most days will involve visiting active building project sites, conducting crew meetings and toolbox talks, reviewing production and safety performance, coordinating equipment and materials, sequencing subcontractor work, resolving field challenges, preparing for inspections, and communicating with architects, engineers, inspectors, project managers, superintendents, and company leadership.

The General Foreman should expect to spend significant time outdoors and inside active construction areas in varying site conditions and may be required to travel throughout Puerto Rico. The position often requires flexibility in work hours to support concrete pours, material deliveries, inspections, trade coordination, critical path activities, emergency response efforts, and customer priorities.
