Job Description

Title:  Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Reports to: Director of Engineering

Job Purpose:  Oversees the documentation and continuous improvement of all manufacturing equipment and processes.  Responsible for guiding existing and future equipment and process capabilities in support of the company's goals and objectives. 

Scope: Phoenix Stamping Group's manufacturing operations currently comprises four manufacturing facilities, 200+ personnel, and a $2MM+ capital expenditure budget. 

Key Responsibilities:

Manage manufacturing engineering activity to support departmental and company objectives:

  • Manage, mentor, and train the Manufacturing Engineering team in all efforts of continuous improvement, standardization, and elimination of waste to include the development of standard work, process improvement, and cost reduction.
  • Oversee the sourcing and/or design and installation of new equipment, manufacturing cells and manufacturing processes along with continuous evaluation of existing equipment to ensure that production capabilities are aligned with the company's product and process mix.
  • Manage all manufacturing engineering processes and standard work, with a focus on continuous process improvement
  • Evaluate process capabilities to ensure optimal quality, utilization, and efficiency.
  • Utilize effective root cause analysis to develop, implement and validate corrective actions and controls.
  • Drive equipment and process standardization across all manufacturing plants.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of visual factory tools and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of standard work instructions as a continues training tool.
  • Assist Director of Engineering with building and executing the department's long-term strategy and vision

Utilize effective project management skills to plan, implement, and support operational improvements:

  • Utilize a combination of technical and project management skills to help direct and manage capital investment in manufacturing capacity and capability.
  • Ability to develop detailed project plans involving cross functional stakeholders.
  • Ability to both directly and indirectly manage and collaborate with other functional groups and key stakeholders to successfully implement projects.
  • Participate in the product development process to evaluate process paths and design for manufacturability.

Operate within Company Parameters:

  • Champion continuous improvement efforts through knowledge and awareness, training, procurement, and process improvement.
  • Maintains an organized, clean, and safe work area using 6S guidelines and participates in audits as required
  • Liaise with other functional groups and departments to support operational capabilities, changes, and improvements and to communicate timelines, deliverables and resource needs to complete projects on time.
  • Ensure operational activities and management of equipment and materials are executed in a manner consistent with good stewardship
  • Ensure activities meet and integrate with organizational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and general duty of care
  • Execute all responsibilities according to lawful and ethical standards as established by company policies and procedures

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience, preferably in Engineering
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, manufacturing project management and/or operations of high-volume manufacturing
  • Demonstrated experience managing and implementing manufacturing process and equipment projects
  • Demonstrated experience leading data analytics and presenting insights to management and teams with diverse technical background for strategic decisions
  • Experience with CNC equipment a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement through team building and process change
  • Lean manufacturing and quality system experience required (ISO 9001:2015 preferred)
  • Autodesk AutoCad, Inventor or similar modeling experience
  • Microsoft Office and Epicor or other ERP Software required
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills
  • Self-directed/organized, strong work ethic, positive attitude, works well in teams, customer focused and accountable for actions
  • Must be willing and able to travel ~25% of time
