Job description

POSITION: Lunch Monitor
POSITION TYPE: Classified - Salary Schedule
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is recommended.
  • Shall have the ability to communicate and deal with students, staff and the public in a congenial and positive manner.
  • Shall have demonstrated aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities.
  • Shall exhibit acceptable standards of emotional stability, moral character, sound health and be physically able to perform necessary job responsibilities.
  • Shall exhibit a pleasant and dignified manner, be neat in appearance and have the ability to adjust to change.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
 
CONTRACT WORK DAYS:  As per Board Agreement
 
RESPONSIBLE TO: Counselor and Building Principal
 
SUPERVISES: N/A
 
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: To assist in establishing and maintaining a calm and pleasant atmosphere in the cafeteria or lunch room area conducive to providing students a meal time to unwind and to refresh for the tasks of the afternoon.
 
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 
  • Organizes students into orderly lines for purchasing food, and sees that they go to assigned tables.
  • Helps students develop and observe proper dining habits, both in terms of etiquette and nutrition.
  • Assists younger students with use of utensils when needed.
  • Organizes students for orderly disposal of food wastes, trays and utensils.
  • Organizes groups for orderly dismissal from the lunchroom.
  • Circulates among the tables during the meal period so as to be available to help children who need help and to resolve any minor problems that arise.
  • Informs the Counselor at once of any serious infraction of disciplinary rules by students.
  • Calls immediately for the Counselor in the event of any argument involving more than two students; any incident involving physical confrontation and any incident that appears to be of more than momentary disruption.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Counselor and Building Principal.
