The Director of Learning & Development is a strategic leadership role responsible for setting and executing the enterprise learning strategy for Albertsons Companies. This leader will oversee the National Learning team and drive the design, development, and delivery of innovative learning solutions that enable business performance, build critical capabilities, and create meaningful growth opportunities for associates.

This role partners closely with senior business leaders, HR, and cross-functional stakeholders across the National and Division teams to align learning initiatives with enterprise priorities. The Director will ensure that learning programs not only enhance associate skills and career progression but also strengthen culture, improve engagement, and deliver measurable business outcomes.

As a key member of the Associate Experience & Development leadership team, this role will champion a culture of continuous learning and ensure the organization is equipped to meet current and future business needs.

Main responsibilities:

Enterprise Learning Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and lead the enterprise learning and development strategy aligned to business goals and organizational priorities 
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing National Learning team 
  • Establish a forward-looking capability-building roadmap to support business transformation and growth 
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on learning, talent development, and capability strategies

Business Partnership & Needs Assessment

  • Partner with executive and senior leaders to identify capability gaps and performance needs 
  • Translate business strategies into scalable learning solutions that drive measurable outcomes 
  • Align learning priorities with enterprise initiatives, workforce planning, and talent strategies 

Learning Design & Innovation

  • Oversee the design and development of engaging, scalable, and modern learning solutions (eLearning, instructor-led, blended, experiential, and digital learning) 
  • Ensure consistent application of instructional design principles and enterprise standards 
  • Drive innovation in learning approaches, tools, and technologies to enhance the learner experience 

Program Implementation & Delivery

  • Ensure successful enterprise-wide rollout and adoption of learning programs 
  • Partner with HR and business leaders to embed learning into workflows and operations 
  • Oversee facilitation strategies and ensure consistency and quality across delivery channels 

Measurement & Business Impact

  • Establish frameworks to measure the effectiveness and ROI of learning initiatives 
  • Leverage data, analytics, and insights to continuously improve programs and demonstrate business impact 
  • Ensure learning solutions drive key outcomes such as performance improvement, engagement, retention, and internal mobility 

Program & Portfolio Management

  • Oversee a portfolio of enterprise learning initiatives, ensuring alignment, prioritization, and execution excellence 
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration across HR, operations, and business teams 
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and at high quality

Culture & Associate Development

  • Champion a culture of continuous learning, growth, and development across the organization 
  • Enable career pathways and development opportunities that support associate progression 
  • Support enterprise leadership development and capability-building initiatives

We believe the successful candidate has these qualifications and experience:

Required Experience

  • 10 plus years of experience in Learning & Development, Talent Development, or related field 
  • 5 plus years of leadership experience managing teams and enterprise-level learning functions 
  • Proven experience developing and executing enterprise learning strategies 
  • Strong track record of partnering with senior leaders to drive business-aligned learning solutions 
  • Experience leading large-scale program design, implementation, and transformation initiatives 
  • Demonstrated ability to measure learning impact and tie outcomes to business performance
  • Familiarity with modern learning technologies (LMS, LXPs, digital learning platforms, analytics tools) 
  • Experience leading change management and capability-building initiatives
  • Experience in retail, grocery, or large-scale, multi-location organizations preferred
