Apollo Insurance Solutions Group ("ISG") is seeking an experienced Director to manage its Los Angeles-based Middle Office Operations team. This is a manager role for an operations professional who combines deep technical expertise in investment operations with strong management capabilities. The Director will report directly to the Head of ISG Middle Office Operations and will be responsible for leading a team across trade support, collateral management, portfolio rebalancing, client service, and investment funding operations.
This role presents an exciting opportunity to shape and scale ISG's middle office function, drive operational excellence, and partner closely with investment, front office, accounting, and technology teams in a fast-paced investment management business.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Middle Office Operations professionals in the ELS office, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture.
  • Provide day-to-day oversight, set clear priorities, and ensure accountability across the team's deliverables and timelines.
  • Support career development, performance management, and talent retention for direct reports.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for the team on complex operational issues, trade disputes, and client inquiries.
  • Oversee trade processing and settlement across multiple asset classes, including fixed income, equities, alternatives, repurchase agreements, bank loans, CLOs, and primary market deals.
  • Monitor and resolve trade issues and inquiries from clients, front office, brokers, and custodians to ensure timely and accurate settlement.
  • Execute and review investment funding and wire processing transactions, ensuring compliance with ISG's internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Review daily holding reconciliations between investment accounting subledgers and custodian records, coordinating with the Investment Accounting team to resolve discrepancies.
  • Enforce ISG's SOC-1 and SOX control procedures, maintaining compliance with regulatory and operational standards.
  • Support ISG's SOC-1 and SOX audit requests, ensuring comprehensive documentation and evidence is available.
  • Maintain and enhance the team's runbook of daily and monthly activities, ensuring clear task assignment, deliverable ownership, and control execution.
  • Drive continuous improvements in workflows, automation, and operational efficiencies in partnership with senior management and technology teams.
  • Lead and participate in key projects aimed at enhancing middle office capabilities, controls, and scalability.
  • Support technology and business initiatives, including system enhancements, workflow automation, and data integrity projects.
  • Lead large-scale cross-functional projects and serve as a key stakeholder in operational improvement efforts.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited University or College; Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Information Systems preferred.
  • 8-10+ years of experience in investment management or asset management operations, with at least 3-5 years in a people management or team lead capacity.
  • Deep expertise in Middle Office or Back Office operations across multiple asset classes, including fixed income, structured products, alternatives, and mortgage investments.
  • Familiarity with physical settlements, repurchase agreements, bank loans, CLOs, and primary market deal settlements.
  • Experience working in SOC-1, NAIC, and/or SEC regulated environments.
  • Strong technology skills including Bloomberg, Excel, VBA, SQL, CTM, DTCC Alert, and SWIFT.
  • CPA or CFA designation is a plus but not required.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to partner across front office, technology, compliance, and accounting teams.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, process orientation, and a self-starter mentality with a desire to build and scale operations.
  • Proven track record of identifying and implementing process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of operational workflows.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to build, automate, or improve operational processes is a plus.

Pay Range
$215,000 - $250,000
