Job description

Egypt Valley Country Club, West Michigan's premier private club, is seeking a passionate and creative Assistant Pastry Chef to join our culinary team. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment producing desserts and baked goods for daily dining service, weddings, golf outings, wine dinners, member events, and banquets.
If you enjoy baking, decorating, and bringing new ideas to life while working alongside a supportive team, we'd love to hear from you.
Position Overview
The Assistant Pastry Chef supports the daily production of pastries and desserts while helping maintain high standards of quality, presentation, and consistency. This role also provides opportunities to contribute to menu development and explore new techniques and creative ideas in a professional kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare pastries, desserts, breads, and baked goods for daily service and special events
  • Restock pastry displays and maintain production levels for à la carte and banquet operations
  • Fulfill dessert requirements for weddings, golf outings, wine dinners, member events, and club functions
  • Plate and display desserts with attention to presentation and detail
  • Prepare and package house-made items such as granola bars and other specialty products
  • Maintain a clean, organized workstation and professional appearance
  • Follow recipes accurately while making adjustments when necessary
  • Assist with inventory rotation and back-stock production
  • Contribute ideas for seasonal menus and new dessert offerings

What We're Looking For
  • Experience with basic baking methods and pastry production
  • Ability to decorate cakes, cookies, and specialty desserts
  • Basic bread-making knowledge and preparation skills
  • Familiarity with foundational French pastry techniques
  • Knowledge of seasonal fruits and ingredients
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to take direction while remaining eager to learn new skills and techniques
  • Creative mindset with a passion for developing new ideas
  • Dependable work ethic and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

Work Schedule
This position offers flexibility whenever possible, with scheduling designed around club events and production needs. Because the pastry department operates as a small team, schedules may vary throughout the season.
  • Saturday availability is required
  • Most Sundays are not required
  • Consecutive days off are prioritized whenever possible
  • Occasional extended shifts may occur during special events such as wine dinners or chef's tables
  • Time off requests are accommodated whenever they do not conflict with the club's event calendar

About Our Kitchen
Egypt Valley features multiple à la carte dining outlets along with a robust banquet program serving weddings, golf outings, member events, and private functions. Our culinary team values creativity, teamwork, hospitality, continuous learning, and a commitment to excellence.
What We Offer
  • Competitive pay
  • Employee meals
  • Staff shirts/uniforms
  • Golf privileges based on hours and days worked
  • Opportunity to showcase creativity and contribute to menu development
  • Work in one of West Michigan's premier private club culinary programs
