ROLE AND PURPOSE:
The Director of Fine Arts provides visionary leadership and strategic oversight for the district's arts ecosystem, serving as a high-level liaison between district and campus leadership to ensure equitable excellence for all students. By developing long-range master plans and district-wide policies, the Executive Director aligns all K-12 instructional initiatives, professional learning, and community interactions with the District's Strategic Plan and the Board of Trustees' goals. This role encompasses comprehensive operational management including the oversight of capital purchases, procurement, facility usage, and equipment life cycle planning. As the district's public-facing fine arts program representative, the Executive Director cultivates vital partnerships with the local community and corporate entities to integrate the fine arts into the broader vision of the district.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Degree in a Fine Arts Area Required; Doctorate in Educational Leadership or a Fine Arts discipline preferred
- Valid Texas Certification in Fine Arts Required
- Valid Administrator Certification Required
Experience:
- At least five (5) years of successful experience as a fine arts teacher
- At least five (5) years as a central and/or campus administrator
- Demonstrated leadership/success at the district, region, and state levels
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Must possess strong leadership and communication skills
- Be knowledgeable in curriculum structure, instructional strategies, budgeting, state laws and regulations affecting district policies and UIL rules
- Working knowledge of bond planning, ed specs for facilities, and construction processes
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
I. INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT
-
- Provide oversight of and direction to the district's Fine Art programs;
- Monitor and facilitate student access and quality of instruction across all K-12 fine arts programming;
- Provide leadership for the design, support, and implementation of quality curriculum and research-based pedagogical practices for all fine arts courses and other fine arts related specialized programming;
- Oversee the development and delivery professional learning opportunities aligned with the needs of the district's fine arts disciplines focusing on delivery of curriculum and growth of teachers; and
- Ensure alignment of the CVPA high school to the district fine arts mission and guaranteed offerings.
II. SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION CLIMATE
-
- Establish and maintain a district-wide culture of high expectations and "customer-service focused" interactions that prioritize the needs of students, parents, and campus staff;
- Foster an atmosphere of cooperation with internal and external stakeholders to promote a unified district vision; and
- Model and foster an environment that is inclusive of diverse voices, promotes professional growth and innovation.
III. SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT
-
- Collaborate with principals and department leaders to inform continuous improvement efforts and to collaboratively work to achieve district goals;
- Develop activities and implement programs collaboratively with staff to ensure attainment of department mission and overall improvement efforts;
- Establish a formal cycle for conducting district-wide program audit to ensure that resources, staffing, and high-quality instructional offerings are distributed equitably across all learning communities;
- Conceptualize and attract internal and external support for non-traditional or innovative fine arts approaches, specifically targeting unmet student needs or emerging industry trends in the arts;
- Direct the collection and analysis of longitudinal student participation and achievement data to evaluate the effectiveness of programs, using findings to drive continuous improvement; and
- Lead the development and implementation of a 5-year Fine Arts master plan ensuring facility modernization as well as addressing program growth, demographic shifts, and emerging instructional technologies and opportunities.
IV. ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
-
- Provide leadership pertaining to capital improvement projects and bond planning related to the fine arts;
- Drive revenue generation strategies, including the pursuit of large-scale federal/state grants, etc. for CVPA venue to promote program sustainability and expansion;
- Help prioritize needs of district facilities including secondary fine arts classrooms and auditoria, as well as elementary classrooms and cafetoria;
- Manage and develop budgets for the fine arts department, venue, and CVPA school ensuring that resources, equipment and travel are properly aligned with district vision;
- Maintain and develop refresh cycles and lifecycle management plans; and
- Create and monitor the district Fine Arts Calendar.
V. STUDENT MANAGEMENT
-
- Encourage and promote proper student management for Fine Arts faculty;
- Ensure the district's safety protocols are implemented with fidelity at fine arts events, including specialized equipment use, performance spaces, and off-campus events;
- Establish centralized regulations and provide high-level coordination for student travel, ensuring that all fine arts group trips meet district safety standards; and
- Create and manage district-wide systems for recognizing exemplary student performance and scholarship, such as "All-District" honors or showcase events.
VI. SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS
-
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct district-wide events and activities related to the Fine Arts;
- Seek support and coordination of fine arts programs with the community;
- Monitor and influence regional and state-level policy (TEA/UIL) to ensure district fine arts programs remain at the forefront of educational standards and legislative compliance; and
- Cultivate community engagement including collaboration with community leaders, business partners, and higher education representatives to foster local arts integration.
VII. PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
-
- Actively maintain expert-level knowledge of global K-12 Fine Arts advancements to serve as a primary consultant for district leadership on emerging trends and pedagogical shifts;
- Actively pursue opportunities for life-long learning and professional growth;
- Participate in professional organizations; attend professional development activities and apply new learning to improve job performance; and
- Lead and model the integration of cutting-edge, interactive technologies to promote organizational modernization with the fine arts program.
VIII. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
-
- Ensure that CVPA Venue Director and total operations are aligned with district vision.
- Supervision and performance evaluation of Assistant Directors, Coordinators, and administrative support staff within the fine arts office
- Perform other duties and functions assigned by the Chief Academic Officer.
